Bomb Scare Forced Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden to Flee the Set of ‘The Eternals’
Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden had the scare of their lives while working on Marvel’s upcoming movie, The Eternals. The actors, who are currently filming the project in Fuerteventura, Spain, were forced to flee the set after an unexploded bomb was discovered nearby. Although the bomb was safely defused, it is pretty frightening to think what could have happened if someone had accidentally disturbed it.
Jolie and Madden evacuate ‘The Eternals’ set
Given how some of Hollywood’s brightest stars were on the set of The Eternals in Spain, producers wasted no time dealing with the situation. As soon as the bomb was discovered, they called in experts in bomb disposal and evacuated the entire set.
“It was obviously terrifying — the bomb could have been there for decades untouched but who knows what might have happened if it was disturbed,” a source revealed. “Some of the biggest stars in the world were on set and nobody was taking any chances. Fortunately, experts dealt with it.”
While the situation was handled properly, the insider noted that people started to panic after learning there was a bomb nearby — which is a totally reasonable reaction.
According to Mirror, the bomb is from the Second World War and probably belonged to the Nazis, who operated a base in the vicinity. It is unclear how long it took to take care of the bomb, but filming is expected to continue now that the threat is over.
Hopefully, the cast and crew of The Eternals will not face any similar delays as filming resumes on the Spanish island.
Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden have not commented on the bomb scare.
A look at ‘The Eternals’
Bomb delays aside, Marvel fans are looking forward to seeing Jolie and Madden in action when The Eternals hits theaters late next year.
The movie centers on the story of a group of God-like beings who protect the Earth from their villainous peers called the Deviants.
Angelina Jolie is set to play the part of Thena while Madden is playing Ikaris, both of whom are a part of the third generation of the Eternals. Jolie’s character in The Eternals has powers like superhuman strength, immortality, flight, and the ability to manipulate atoms.
It is unclear which storyline the film will adapt, though fans are interested in seeing what the new franchise has to offer.
Jack Kirby is credited for creating the Eternals in 1976, and the upcoming movie is directed by Chloe Zhao Working, with Ryan Firpo and Matthew K. Firpo writing the script.
‘The Eternals’ set photos offer first look at Madden in character
While we wait to hear more about the project, new photos from the set of The Eternals show Madden in his full getup as Ikaris. The actor was spotted in-between takes and is wearing normal clothes in the shot.
It is unclear what is going on in the scene, but it appears to be some kind of stunt. The Game of Thrones star is rocking a pair of jeans and a jean jacket in the scene, and one of the photos shows a stunt double in the same outfit.
At one point, Madden is suspended above the ground via a set of wires. This could indicate that the scene is displaying some of his character’s powers, like the ability to fly.
Madden, of course, is not the first actor that we’ve seen on the set of The Eternals. We’ve also seen shots of Jolie and Gemma Chan, who is playing Sersi, though everyone has been on their own so far.
What about Kit Harington?
Madden is not the only Game of Thrones alum on the cast of The Eternals. Kit Harington has also been cast to play the part of the Black Knight in the movie.
Harington previously expressed his excitement about moving on from Game of Thrones and branching out into new roles. Although he may have expected a Marvel movie to be a far cry from the HBO drama, his character is actually pretty close to Jon Snow.
Not only is the Black Knight really good at hand-to-hand combat, but he also wields a sword called the Ebony Blade, which is one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fans can watch Harington, Madden, and Jolie in action when The Eternals hits theaters on November 6, 2020. The next movie in Marvel’s lineup, Black Widow, is scheduled to be released on May 1.
