Braunwyn Windham-Burke Shades ‘RHOC’ Co-Star Kelly Dodd: ‘I Believe Black Lives Matter, She Believes Drunk Wives Matter’
Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Kelly Dodd are not on good terms on The Real Housewives of Orange County. The two housewives have reportedly unfollowed each other on social media after season 16 wrapped filming. Windham-Burke has hinted that it might have something to do with politics and the social causes that she supports.
Kelly Dodd mocks Black Lives Matter
Dodd is not afraid of making controversial statements on social media. When the pandemic started she was one who played the coronavirus down and wrote it off as something that wasn’t dangerous to the general public.
More recently, she was accused by RHOC fans of mocking the Black Lives Matter movement. During her bridal shower, she was given a hat that said “Drunk Wives Matter,” which was a play on words on the social cause.
As the cause is to fight for justice for the Black community, fans were not OK with the joke. A backlash ensued, and some viewers threatened to boycott the show if Bravo didn’t take action against the reality TV personality.
Braunwyn Windham-Burke calls out Kelly Dodd
Windham-Burke has been one of the loudest voices in the Real Housewives franchises supporting BLM. She has not been afraid to raise her voice to raise awareness that change needs to happen and police brutality is a real issue. The RHOC star recently said in an interview how different she is from Dodd.
“We are diametrically opposed in our ideology right now,” Windham-Burke said in the Getting Real with the Real Housewives podcast, according to Reality Blurb. “I believe Black Lives Matter, and she believes Drunk Wives Matter. And that’s something that I don’t funny. I’ve forgiven her a lot for her big mouth over the years. But now we’re at the point where she is attacking people, and it’s more than I can be around.”
Kelly Dodd apologizes
After Dodd received major backlash on social media, she took to Instagram to issue an apology and explain the hat.
“Over the weekend at my bridal shower, I got lots of gifts and briefly displayed them,” she said in a statement posted on Instagram. “One was a hat with a play on words since I’m about to be a wife, I’m on a Housewives TV show and might be drunk once in a while.”
“It was not intended to offend or make any kind of statement,” Dodd added. “Of course I support Black lives and racial equality. Thank you all.”
There was another housewife that called out Dodd for her controversial hat. Vicki Gunvalson, who left RHOC after season 14, has also expressed her aversion for Dodd’s comments.
“Kelly Dodd is the true meaning of a pig,” Gunvalson told Celeb Magazine. “She thinks she’s above the law, she mocks people dying of the coronavirus pandemic, she wore a ‘Drunk Wives Matter’ hat at a time when people are out advocating for Black Lives Matter- which, whether she agrees or not, completely mocks the movement. She hosted a bridal shower with little use of masks and no social distancing, and that’s only the beginning.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
