‘Bridgerton’ Season 2: Fans Are Desperate to Know Who Will Play Kate Sheffield
Bridgerton fans got the news they’d been waiting for on Thursday when Netflix revealed it had renewed the show for season 2. Lady Whistledown herself shared the announcement in a Jan. 21 tweet, which also included some hints about what to expect from the next chapter in the period drama.
‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 will focus on Anthony Bridgerton
Bridgerton’s first batch of episodes focused primarily on the romance between Daphne (Phoebe Dyvenor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page). But in the second season, Daphne’s older brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) will take center stage.
“This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season,” read the tweet, which was written in the voice of the show’s anonymous gossip columnist (voiced by Julie Andrews). “I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.”
The new season of ‘Bridgerton’ is based on ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’
That season 2 of Bridgerton will focus on Anthony is no surprise to fans of the books that inspired the show — or those viewers who took note of the character’s announcement in the season 1 finale that he intended to find a wife.
Bridgerton Season 1 was based on Julia Quinn’s first Briderton novel, The Duke and I. The second title in the series is The Viscount Who Loved Me. That book is all about Anthony, who has finally made a decision about who he wants to marry. The only problem is his intended wife’s older sister Kate Sheffield, who doesn’t trust Anthony’s supposedly reformed ways. And Kate and Anthony can’t deny their attraction to each other, which makes things even more complicated.
‘Bridgerton’ fans want to know who will play Kate Sheffield
Assuming the next season of Bridgerton follows the basic plot of The Viscount Who Loved Me, Kate Sheffield is going to be a pretty major character. Naturally, fans are eager to know who will play her. But so far, Netflix hasn’t dropped any hints about casting — or even confirmed that Kate will have a role in season 2 at all.
“Who is going to be playing Kate?” wrote one person on Instagram, asking the question that is on the mind of many fans.
“Kindly say who is going to be Kate .. Can’t wait,” another commented.
On Twitter, some fans offered their casting suggestions. Among the names floated were Sai Bennett (The Spanish Princess), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), and Simona Brown (The Little Drummer Girl). Several simply expressed hope that the show would stick with its diverse casting choices and choose a non-white actor to play the role.
Fans might have to wait awhile for casting news, however. In the tweet announcing the renewal, Lady Whistledown said additional details about season 2 probably wouldn’t be coming anytime soon.
“[B]efore you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, know that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time,” read the update. “Patience, after all, is a virtue.”
Bridgerton Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
