‘Bridgerton’: What Phoebe Dynevor Wants to Happen to Daphne in Season 2

Bridgerton season 1 was a huge success. In fact, the show has just been announced as Netflix’s biggest original series ever, garnering views from over 80 million households in just over a month. Because of its extreme success, Bridgerton has already been renewed for season 2. But as some of the cast and creator, Chris Van Dusen, have said, season 2 will differ greatly from season 1. Phoebe Dynevor has a very specific wish for her character Daphne Bridgerton in season 2.

What was season 1 of ‘Bridgerton’ about?

The Bridgerton show is based on an eight novel series by Julia Quinn. Season 1 followed the storyline of the book, “The Duke and I” so it focused mostly on the relationship between Daphne and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. Sparks didn’t exactly fly upon Daphne and Simon’s first meeting, in fact, neither of them liked the other. But when Daphne’s older brother, Anthony, ran all of her suitors away, she had no choice but to strike a deal with Simon. The two planned to pretend to court each other so that other men would become interested in Daphne again and Simon could avoid women throwing themselves at him in attempts to marry him.

Of course, Daphne and Simon soon fell in love and found themselves facing more problems than either of them had anticipated.

Season 2 will not focus on Daphne and Simon

Though fans fell in love with Daphne and Simon in season 1, they will not be the focus of season 2. Season 2 will most likely follow the second book in the series, “The Viscount Who Loved Me.”

“If we’re sticking to the books, it’s sort of Anthony’s turn now,” Dynevor told Harper’s Bazaar about season 2. “There’s no such thing as a happy ending, is there? I think love’s always shifting and changing. So who knows? I’d like to see what happens next.”

Van Dusen has also said that season 2 will have a different focus.

“I feel like the first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon,” he told Collider. “But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure.”

But don’t worry Daphne and Simon fans. Your favorite couple’s love story is far from over.

“It’s interesting,” Van Dusen said of Daphne and Simon’s future. “I think it’s too early to tell right now. I think that we’re along for the ride of Daphne and Simon’s love story this first season. And, I think we’ve done some work in Season 1 to set up other characters. We really dig into Anthony’s love story. We’re really exploring Benedict as well, and Collin, and Eloise relationship. I think it’s a deep well of story for us to explore.”

What does Phoebe Dynevor want to happen to Daphne?

While Dynevor knows that her character won’t be as up front and center as she was in season 1, she does hope that Daphne plays a role in Anthony’s love life in season 2.

“I genuinely don’t know anything, first off. It’s all top secret,” she told Glamour. “But I would like to see her get more involved in her brother Anthony’s love life. I think it’s her time to get him back. And I’d like to explore a bit more of Daphne and Simon’s relationship. I really liked that it ended on a happy ending, but life isn’t one happy ending. I’d like to see what other hurdles they have to jump over.”
