Brie Larson is it. The star of Captain Marvel is at the top of her game right now. She’s making movies, starring in them, and doing some cover songs in her spare time. Now a rumor, that at first came from her time as a Star Wars fanatic, is gaining traction. You might see Larson holding a lightsaber soon, taking on the role of a popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars character.
Who is Brie Larson eyed to play?
For about a month or so, people have been speculating that Kevin Feige’s upcoming Star Wars movie will feature an Avenger. Thanks to Larson’s massive dedication to that franchise as a fan, she was one of the first ones other fans pointed to.
Now, We Got This Covered has turned to their trusty sources and furthered this rumor along. The same sources that helped them scoop the news on Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Robert Pattinson getting the role of Batman are now saying that Feige is eyeing Larson to play Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka was once a Jedi Padawan, training under Anakin Skywalker in the TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She and her master had a strong bond and went through a lot together over five seasons. Ultimately, Ahsoka was framed for a crime against the Jedi Order. She was barred from its service, but chose to leave the Jedi Order even after Anakin cleared her name. Fans saw her again in Star Wars: Rebels.
She did finally have a run-in with Anakin, now Darth Vader, and it resulted in one of the best scenes on that show. Ahsoka has guilt and pain associated with Anakin, and her character is one of the most exciting and complex, making her a great choice for a solo film.
Why do people think Kevin Feige will bring in Larson?
On Sept. 25, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Feige would develop a new Star Wars movie as part of a “new era” in the franchise, according to co-chairman Alan Horn. Collider reported that it might not be just a chance to develop a Star Wars movie, but it could lead to a leadership position for Feige later on.
THR reported that Feige already has a “major actor” in mind for a specific role. All eyes went to Larson, who then teased the gossip a bit by posting a picture of her dressed up as a Jedi with C-3PO, and the caption, “Did someone say Star Wars?!”
What could a live-action Ahsoka movie be about?
Ahsoka, voiced by Ashley Eckstein, would be one of the first — if not the first — Star Wars character to go from the animated world to live-action. She already has a huge fan-base, if you could tell from the several seasons on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and then a recurring — and vital — role on Star Wars: Rebels.
There are periods of time that viewers don’t see of Ahsoka, creating endless possibilities for a spin-off. Plus, she has a strong connection to the original characters because she’s Anakin’s old Padawan.
If the movie follows Ahsoka after her arc on Rebels, it could show her continued effort with the rebel movement. It could be also a whole spin-off of her time after leaving the Jedi Order, before Rebels. Either way, a charismatic and intriguing character like Ahsoka would bring so much to a solo movie. And with Larson at the forefront of it (if that’s the case) it’ll undoubtedly be iconic.
