Fans of MTV’s Teen Mom OG have been watching the stars of the show grow up since they were on 16 and Pregnant. Now, the once-pregnant teenage mom-to-bes are making it on their own — and their kids are growing older, too. Not every star of Teen Mom OG has been on the network over the years, however. And after Farrah Abraham was fired from the show, the producers brought in a few new faces no one expected.
Now, Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, has joined the cast to share her story with the world. While she may not have been on the show, she was certainly a teen mom herself. And she’s bringing in a lot of money thanks to her new role.
Why was Bristol Palin cast for Teen Mom?
When it comes to controversial political figures, Sarah Palin is certainly one of them. The former governor of Alaska was John McCain’s running mate for the presidency — but she couldn’t escape public criticism and family drama. And when her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, became pregnant, that was an even bigger hurdle in Sarah’s political career.
Now, the dust has settled — and MTV realized Bristol may be the perfect replacement for the feisty and dramatic Farrah Abraham. While she may not bring the same level of theatrics to the show, she was still pregnant in the public eye and faced plenty of criticism. And now that she’s 27, she has three kids total, is divorced, and has plenty of life lessons to share with viewers.
This isn’t her first time in the reality TV spotlight, either, which also may have been attractive to MTV. Bristol starred in a lifetime series titled Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp in 2012.
How much she’s making from the show
As for how much Bristol can expect to make from the show, it’s a lot more than many expected. Us Weekly reports for the first season of the show alone, she’s earning $250,000. She’s also getting the option to continue for a second and third season, one source told the publication. And if she does continue with additional seasons, she’ll allegedly be offered an additional $50,000 per season. The insider adds, “She could be making $350,000 in three years.”
While this seems like plenty to most, the source added that this is actually a lot less than Bristol was anticipating. They said, “Bristol came in hoping for a very big payday, and really thought she could and would get $500,000. None of the Teen Mom’s, even Farrah, made close to that when they first started or even now.”
Her net worth in 2018
As for Bristol’s net worth, there’s no doubt that her time with Teen Mom will give her bank account a serious boost. Romper explains thanks to her Instagram endorsements and stints on other TV shows, her net worth was estimated to be around $500,000. But The Squander notes her worth is probably closer to over $1.5 million in 2018 partly thanks to the success of her bestselling book. Even so, neither source mentions how much Teen Mom is likely to add to her net worth total.
While she’s certainly a newcomer to MTV, these numbers put her way above the other moms on the show. It’s been reported that her co-star’s net worths are only in the $10,000-$20,000 range. Farrah Abraham was the outlier here, as thanks to her many business endeavors, hers was estimated to be around $1 million.
