Revealed: Were Photos Of Britney Spears Really Altered By The Paparazzi?
Britney Spears found herself back in headlines yesterday, but for reasons that were entirely of her own doing. The “If You Seek Amy” singer has recently been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories, but this time the pop princess was the one asking the important questions. Spears accused the paparazzi of digitally altering photographs of her enjoying a day at the beach with her boyfriend. But does this conspiracy theory have any merit?
Beach with the boyfriend
Over the weekend, photos surfaced of Spears spending time at the beach with her boyfriend, Sam Asghari. These photos show the 37-year-old wearing oversized sunglasses, a pink bikini top, black bikini bottoms, a flowy, translucent cover-up, and white Birkenstocks whilst holding hands with her beau. Though the photos appeared normal to most fans, Spears took notice of them and quickly spotted an issue with the way she was being depicted.
On Sunday night, Spears took to her Instagram page via Instagram story to discuss the images that had emerged. First explaining her smudged makeup and stating that she looked “haggard” because of her time spent on a jet ski, she quickly began to state her case about the recent photos.
“A lot of fans, in our world today, they always are subject to really criticize people and say that the pictures and videos that they’re posting are either not on time or they’re fake” the “Toxic” singer stated. Certainly, there has been a recent surge of fans and media calling celebs out for altering their body, skin, and facial features with apps like Photoshop and Facetune. However, the singer was looking to point the finger the other direction this time.
“But no one ever really asks, ‘Are the paparazzi pictures fake, and do the paparazzi people do stuff to the pictures, and is the news really real?’ It’s a conspiracy theory that I’m actually interested in.” the “Womanizer” songstress continued candidly. She then went on to state her case for why she believed that the paparazzi might have unfairly altered images of her.
“Yesterday, I went swimming. I look like I’m 40 pounds bigger than I am today. This is how I am right now, and I’m skinny as a needle. You tell me, what is real?” Spears implored fans.
As she was addressing fans in a bikini, she asked fans to compare what they were seeing presently with the images that had been taken just the day before. Many fans were quick to take Spears’ side and state that she did appear slimmer today, while others pointed out that camera angle and distance can play a large role in how someone is perceived.
The company responsible for the images was quick to refute the claims that they had digitally altered the images in any capacity. In a statement made to Page Six, they even went as far as offering to release original images to Spears for her to review.
“We think Britney looks great and it’s ludicrous to suggest the photos or video were altered in any way. They were not. We shot thousands of photos of her over the weekend and are very happy to let her see the original files if she so wishes. It was good to see her happy and having fun and we wish her well” a rep said.
While we don’t have definite proof on this matter, there doesn’t really seem to be a plausible explanation for the paparazzi to alter images to make Spears seem bigger than she is. Though the paparazzi often does overstep boundaries, we hope that they wouldn’t stoop this low.
Not only would they have nothing to gain, but because they’re right in this case, Spears does look great. In both the beach photos and in her Instagram videos, she looks happy and healthy. Time will tell if other celebs back up this conspiracy theory. For now, we hope Spears is enjoying the rest of her time relaxing in the sun.
