‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’: The Season Six Trailer Just Dropped and It’s Pure Gold

Brooklyn Nine-Nine isn’t your typical cop show. This sitcom about a dysfunctional group of police officers, which originally aired on Fox before it was abruptly canceled, received a quick reprieve when NBC swooped in to save them with a renewal just 31 hours later. It’s kind of a crazy story.

Why did ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ get canceled?

Most of the time, cast members have an inkling that they’re about to get canceled. Poor viewership, being shuffled around to different time slots, and a general sense of foreboding are usually indicators that a cancellation might be on the horizon. But in the case of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the cast members were completely blindsided.

Terry Crews, who plays Terry Jeffords on the show, explained it this way to Business Insider:

“We had no clue we were going to be canceled. All expectations were that we were coming back for a sixth season just because we were doing so well. It was the shock of the century.”

NBC saved the day

Fans were outraged over the cancellation. But they were equally shocked by the swift resolution to the problem. Hulu may have passed on the chance to pick up the show, but NBC came to the rescue with a promise to renew everyone’s favorite cop comedy. Now the show lives on its new network and just about everyone is pleased about it.

What happened last season?

At the end of season five, characters Jack Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) got married. Show fans were also left with a cliffhanger at the end of the episode when Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) announced that he might become the police commissioner. So many answers will be revealed in season six, which is thankfully coming back after a short break.

Why is ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ so popular?

There are plenty of cop shows on TV. But why does everyone love Brooklyn Nine-Nine more than the others? Probably because it’s genuinely funny. Described as a “big family sitcom,” the show manages not to take itself too seriously – and it’s genuinely funny. The characters interact so well together. It’s almost like they are one big happy family, just based in a police precinct rather than a living room.

When is season six coming back?

Great news for Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans: season six will be back on NBC beginning January 10 so you can start your new year off with a generous dose of laughter. Fans were excited to see the new trailer and can’t wait to see what happens with that cliffhanger!

Tune in to NBC on Thursday nights at 9/8c to catch up with the gang.
