BTS Will Kick Off 2020 With a Performance on ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’

The members of BTS are gearing up for even more world domination. The South Korean group will perform on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest to kick off 2020.

BTS will perform in Times Square on New Year’s Eve

On Dec. 17, the lineup for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacreast was announced. Post Malone will headline the event. BTS, Sam Hunt, Alanis Morissette, and the cast of Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill are also slated to perform.

“Making his Times Square debut, Post Malone will be joined by additional performers BTS, Sam Hunt and Alanis Morissette, performing for the first time with the cast of the hit Broadway musical ‘Jagged Little Pill’ for America’s biggest celebration of the year,” reads a press release for the event.

ARMY celebrated BTS’s upcoming performance on Twitter

Before the announcement, ARMY was under the impression that BTS would spend New Year’s Eve resting with their families. It was initially reported that BTS would not be in the lineup for MBC Gayo Daejejeon, a South Korean music show, on Dec. 31. The reason given was that BTS would spend the New Year with their families.

BTS was then announced as part of the lineup for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Fans took to Twitter to celebrate that BTS would be part of the iconic holiday program.

One fan wrote on Twitter, “BTS is performing in Times Square for New Year’s !! OMG !”

“MBC mistreated them last year and they’re the only year-end music show BTS ditched this year and chose Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve…..,” another tweeted.

Fans used the hashtags #BTSxRockinEve and #BTSxTimesSquare when tweeting about BTS’s upcoming performance. Because Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest is so popular around the world, ARMY is excited for BTS’s continued success and recognition.

“This is the best. I am so glad they decided to do this. THIS IS HUGE HUGE HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE,” wrote a Twitter user.

A fan tweeted, “[email protected]_twt performing live at Times Square?! This is huge. HUGE! It’s like a sold out stadium that the whole world has tickets for. I’m so happy for BTS & for me who gets to watch with millions & MILLIONS worldwide!”

The New Year’s Eve program is viewed around the world

On Dec. 31, 2018, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest was the top TV program of that night. The ABC broadcast had 7.92 million viewers and 11.47 million viewers at the 10 p.m. hour. That’s not counting the estimated 1 million people that come to New York City to watch the ball drop.

BTS performed on the famous holiday show in 2017. The group performed “MIC Drop” and “DNA” in a pre-recorded segment that was aired during the live show. This upcoming 2019 appearance will mark BTS’s first live performance in Times Square as part of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
