BTS Member Profile and Facts: Jin

He’s Mr. Worldwide Handsome, but he’s also kind, charitable, and talented. Jin is the oldest member of the K-pop group, BTS, and ever since the boy band’s debut, Jin became known for his infectious laugh and admirable confidence. Here are some things you might not have known about the oldest performer in BTS, Kim Seokjin.

Kim Seokjin, also known by his stage name ‘Jin,’ is the oldest member of BTS

Some may know him as Mr. Worldwide Handsome. Others know him as the singer behind songs like “Epiphany.” Kim Seokjin, also known by his stage name ‘Jin,’ was born on Dec. 4, 1992, making him the oldest member of the K-pop group BTS.

“As the oldest member, I think I experienced the world a little sooner than many people my age, so I think I am a grown-up. I just act like a kid on purpose. But I feel like a grown-up when I talk to my friends and they ask for advice,” Jin said in the BTS Now 3 magazine, according to the South China Morning Post.

This BTS member is a dancer, a singer, and, sometimes, a writer. Additionally, he speaks a little English and Japanese. Primarily, Jin gets a lot of attention for being the “visual” member of BTS. His good looks earned him the nickname “Worldwide Handsome,” which he often refers to himself as during interviews.

Jin of BTS is very into philanthropy, often donating to UNICEF

He’s a K-pop idol but that doesn’t mean that Jin doesn’t give back to the community. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “in May 2018, Jin joined UNICEF Korea’s Honors Club. To join the group of donors, members must donate at least 100 million won, or $88,000, to the organization’s cause.” The donations started pouring in after BTS partnered with UNICEF for their “Love Myself” campaign.

Jin also loves to cook and to eat. Sometimes, the singer will hop on V Live and do a live stream of him enjoying a meal (also known as a mukbang.) BTS fans took to social media, hashtagging the show, entitled “Eat Jin.” Aside from V Live, fans can watch Jin perform onstage with BTS.

Mr. Worldwide Handsome has multiple solo songs on BTS’ albums

Although he is one of the singers for BTS, Jin also appears with solo songs on BTS’ albums. That includes “Epiphany” off of Love Yourself: Answer, and “Awake” off of Wings. Through these songs, Jin even gets to showcase his piano skills, as he performs “Epiphany” live while playing the piano.

As the oldest member of BTS, there’s also the big question of whether Jin will enlist in the South Korean military. The K-pop idol even commented on this during an interview with CBS, saying, “As a Korean, it’s natural and, someday, when duty calls we’ll be ready to respond and do our best.”

Music by Jin and BTS, including Map of the Soul: Persona, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most streaming platforms. To learn more about the Love Myself campaign, visit their website.
