What Are the Odds BTS Will Be Nominated for a Grammy Award?

They were just so adorable last year, it’s only natural fans want to see BTS at the 2020 Grammy Awards. This time, fans hope the K-pop group could snag a few nominations. What are the odds BTS will be nominated for a Grammy? When does the award show take place? Here’s what we know about the boy band and one of the biggest nights in the music industry.

BTS attended last year’s Grammy Awards, even presenting an award at the event

This boy band isn’t afraid to break records. Last year, just as Suga predicted, BTS became the first K-pop group to present an award at the Grammy’s. The group announced the nominations in the “Best R&B Album” category, awarding the Grammy to H.E.R. During an interview with Rolling Stone, BTS reflected on their previous experience at the Grammy Awards.

“It’s the biggest night in the music industry all over the world, so we were so honored, and kind of nervous, and so excited to be there with such great artists,” said RM. “We want to be back. All of the members are true fans of H.E.R. — and it was really surprising and amazing to be able to give the award to our idol. When I called, ‘Congratulations, H.E.R.!’ it was the best moment I ever had.”

Is BTS eligible to win a Grammy Award in 2020?

According to the Grammy website, an artist had to have released music between Oct. 1, 2018, and Aug. 31, 2019, to be eligible for an award. That means albums like Map of the Soul: Persona and songs like “Lights,” “Boy With Luv ft. Halsey,” and “Dream Glow ft. Charli XCX,” are all possibilities for this boy band.

Big Hit has not announced which songs were officially submitted for Grammy consideration. However, according to Billboard, “Boy with Luv” (featuring Halsey) is entered for best pop duo/group performance. According to some fans on Twitter, and the 2020 Grammy Preview edition of Billboard Magazine, the K-pop group also submitted Map of the Soul: Persona for Album of the Year. The nomination announcement takes place on Nov. 20, 2019.

In the past, the K-pop group, BTS, won multiple awards in South Korea and overseas

BTS attended international award shows in the past. The group performed with Halsey at the Billboard Music Awards. They attended the American Music Awards and earned a few awards at the 2019 MTV VMAs. The Grammy’s, of course, is a bigger deal.

According to Elite Daily, “historically, the Recording Academy hasn’t really acknowledged boybands. Despite breaking numerous records, One Direction was repeatedly snubbed by the Grammys and was never nominated in their five years of being together.” If Suga’s predictions are correct, BTS might be the ones to win a Grammy Awards as a boy band.

Music by BTS, including Map of the Soul: Persona, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most streaming platforms. The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards takes place on Jan. 26, 2020.
