BTS: RM Says He’s Growing His Long Hair and Basically, ARMY Needs to Prepare for a New Era of Lengthy Locks

It might be winter, but the seven members of BTS — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — certainly know how to warm the hearts of ARMYs around the world. In recent months, some individuals within the South Korean band have been keeping up with popular style trends by growing out their long locks. Then in a recent VLIVE broadcast, the beloved BTS leader, RM, revealed he wants to grow out his hair. And hopefully, this means ARMY will have to prepare for BTS to feature their long hair in the next comeback.

RM discusses growing out his long hair with BTS fans on VLIVE

On Dec. 14, the BTS septet performed in Japan for their official 5th Muster fan meeting. And following the group’s live performance, RM — real name Kim Namjoon — streamed on VLIVE to interact with ARMY. Then at the start of his broadcast, one fan asked RM whether or not he is growing his long silver hair.

“This is the longest that I’ve had in my life,” the 25-year-old said. “I did trim it a few days ago. But this is the longest that I’ve grown my hair.”

RM then explained his seemingly tumultuous relationship with long hair, especially in the summer months.

“After ‘Boy With Luv,’ I shaved it off before going to the U.S. I normally can’t stand long hair,” he said. “When I was in high school, I kept going back and forth between long and shaved hair. I once got a perm, too. My mind kept changing.”

The rapper continued: “It felt good when I had my hair all shaved off last year. In the summer, it’s best to just shave it off because it’s hot. I can’t stand the heat. It’s great since it’s cool and clean, but I can’t do much styling to it. I wanted to show you something new as well. And that’s why I decided to grow it out. I always have a hard time enduring through this exact length.”

Nevertheless, RM confirmed his long hair is here to stay — much to the relief of BTS fans across the planet.

“Whenever it grows up to here, I just get it cut,” RM said, touching the ends of his silver locks, which reached below his ears. “This time, however, I’m being patient. I’ve endured through the shaggy period, and I’m growing it out … It was so hard getting to this length, I’m going to keep it this way for a bit.”

But if you miss RM with short hair, don’t fret. The music artist noted he’ll cut his hair eventually — just not anytime soon.

“So if you’re looking forward to my short hair, I think the next time would be when I change my mind again. I think I’ll just shave it off again next time,” he said. “For now, I don’t want to get it cut because I worked hard to grow it out. Also, this helps with styling. So I’m keeping it this way.”

Jungkook, V, and Jin also told BTS fans they want to grow out their long hair

As it turns out, RM isn’t the only BTS member who has expressed their wish to grow their long hair. Jungkook, V, and Jin have all recently shared their thoughts about their flourishing locks with the public.

Prior to BTS’s extended period of rest, Jungkook debuted his long hair at the Lotte Duty Free Family Concert in Seoul. But by October, the “Euphoria” singer cut his hair. However, in an interview with iHeartRadio’s Ask Anything Chat, Jungkook said he wants to grow it out again if given the chance.

“The hair was damaged and hard to control,” Jungkook said. “If I have the chance, I might grow it out again.”

Meanwhile, V told his BTS brother he was also considering a longer hairstyle. “I’ll grow it out with you,” V quietly told Jungkook, and the two shared a high-five.

Then on Nov. 23, Jin hosted an Eat Jin VLIVE broadcast, where the oldest BTS member shared his plans to let his hair grow out to pursue a “different style.”

“I’m just growing it out. It’s always the same,” Jin said at the time. “My hairstylist said that it would be nice to have a haircut. I always have the same hairstyle. I said I’ll grow my hair this time.”

RM, Jin, Jungkook, and V may be the only BTS members who have openly expressed their desire to grow out their hair, but the proof is in the pictures. Everyone in the group — including J-Hope, Jimin, and Suga — seems to be dawning longer locks these days. And in all honesty, we’re so here for it.
