Camila Cabello Admits to ‘Falling in Love’ in a New Interview
You’ve seen all those Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes romance rumors, right?
From their heated make-out sessions to their intimate dates, it seems like the entertainers are super into each other. While neither of them has confirmed anything, the “Havana” singer just did an interview with Variety magazine, where she revealed that she’s recently fallen in love. So there’s one more reason to speculate.
Cabello’s comments on falling in love are sweet
The comments came while Cabello discussed her career. She told Variety in an interview published on Aug. 6 that she’s in a different place emotionally than she was when she recorded her first studio album. Then, she had “crushes from afar.” But now she’s focusing on the present as she works on music, where she’s “in love.”
“Falling in love is like an infinite amount of levels and layers and angles,” she told the publication. “I fell in love and just opened up. Everything was written in present moment.”
While she stopped short of naming anyone, she did make a cute comment about Mendes. She raved to the outlet about their “Señorita” collaboration, telling the publication that it was “so much fun” working with someone so special to her.
“I’ve known Shawn for such a long time, and it’s so much fun getting to work and do things with somebody who means a lot to you,” she explained. Cute!
The sweet remarks come just days after an Entertainment Tonight source claimed that the singers were falling for each other.
“Shawn and Camila originally were just enjoying spending time together and having a summer fling,” the source said on July 30. “Camila had just gotten out of a relationship and Shawn was in the middle of a massive tour.” But despite the odds, “Shawn and Camila have really fallen for one another,” the source added.
Cabello and Mendes recently sparked romance rumors
Speculation began in early July — just days after the singers dropped a steamy video for “Señorita,” and days after news broke that Cabello had split from her boyfriend of 1-year, relationship coach Matthew Hussey.
Reports claimed that Cabello and Mendes spent Independence Day together “[looking] intimate” and “holding hands.” A source told E! News, “They were telling people they were a couple.”
Fans later got a closer look at the alleged romance when a video surfaced on July 13 that reportedly showed them kissing at a San Francisco cafe.
“They looked very into each other. Shawn and Camila were splitting pancakes,” a source revealed to Us Weekly. “Then, after, they started kissing. He had his arm around her a lot of the meal, and they were chatting. … They looked in love.”
However, Mendes has denied that he and Cabello are an item. When asked whether they were a thing at a July 6 event, the “Stitches” crooner shook his head.
They say they are just friends
According to Cabello and Mendes, their relationship is totally platonic. They’ve been friends since at least 2014 when they opened for Austin Mahone’s tour. “She is one of those people who is just very easy to connect with and still, to this day, is one of my greatest friends,” Mendes told People magazine in 2016.
But, at the same time, they’ve also expressed some interest in each other over the years. Mendes admitted on a 2015 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden that he had once tried to “make a move” on Cabello.
“Every time I try and make a move, she swerves me off,” he told the host. Cabello quickly chimed in, saying that he was actually the one getting in the way of a potential romance. “He friend-zones me,” she replied. “He calls me ‘Kid!’”
So, maybe they are together; maybe they aren’t. But one thing no one can deny is the adorable bond that Cabello and Mendes share.
