The Real Reason Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles Is Nervous About Visiting Cuba

It’s a new year which means the British Royal Family already has a ton of events and tours lined up on their schedules. Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are headed to Morocco in late Feb. 2019, and Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles are planning a royal tour to Cuba.

The future King of England and his wife will be the first members of the British Royal Family in over 50 years to visit Cuba. No member of the royal family has stepped foot on the island since it came under communist rule. Though Prince Charles is an avid traveler –it looks like Parker Bowles is nervous about their upcoming travels to the northern Carribean island.

Why are Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles visiting Cuba?

Rumors have been swirling about the royal couple’s historic visit to Cuba since November 2018. Though Clarence House has yet to officially confirm the royal tour –during a visit the U.K. Supreme Court, the Duchess of Cornwall did chat about the upcoming visit.

Typically, royal tours are planned by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Office. Members of the British Royal Family are seen as ambassadors who visit with a country’s leaders and engage with its citizens. Though former American President Barack Obama visited the country in 2016 –no British Prime Minister has ever visited communist Cuba. The prince and the duchess‘ visit could be a way of testing the waters.

Are Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles excited about visiting Cuba?

According to Baroness Lucy Hale, the President of the Supreme Court –the prince and duchess are very much looking forward to their trip to Cuba, Hale told Daily Mail, “They are going to visit the Caribbean. They are not only going to the Anglo Caribbean, they are going to Cuba as well. [Camilla] is very much looking forward to going to Cuba. It will be quite an event for members of the royal family to visit Cuba. She said she loved the music and was interested in the architecture.”

Prince Charles loves to travel in style, bringing along his butler, two valets, a private secretary, typist, chef, and handful of bodyguards wherever he goes. Therefore, we think the trip will be as plush and stress-free as the royals can make it.

The real reason Camilla Parker Bowles is nervous about visiting Cuba

Unlike her husband, the Duchess of Cornwall is a homebody and she actually has a pretty bad fear of flying. In 2018, the duchess pulled out of a trip to accompany Prince Charles to Australia at the last minute. A spokesperson for Clarence House told Express U.K., “She decided a few weeks ago to firm up her plans. We were always looking at the Duchess coming. There are no health reasons. She is as fit as a flea. The Duchess does not like flying, but I think she sometimes has to embrace that fear and get on with it.”

However, the duchess‘ fear of flying isn’t the only reason why she’s nervous about visiting Cuba. Apparently, she’s also a bit apprehensive about the food. Baroness Hale told Daily Mail, “She did make a remark about she wasn’t so sure about the food.”
