Can Prince Harry Do Anything About Meghan Markle’s Mean Nicknames?

The media has been in a frenzy these past several months over negative reports about Meghan Markle. While the Duchess of Sussex is generally well-liked by the public, she still cannot escape many rumors that depict her rather unfavorably

One such story that has been making its way around different newspapers is that people close to Meghan are giving her mean nicknames. No doubt this can cause her reputation to be tainted, so is there anything that Prince Harry can do to protect his wife?

Why is Meghan Markle getting mean nicknames?

The nickname drama started in Nov. 2018 when a slew of reports came out about several of Meghan’s royal staff members quitting, including a personal assistant who helped out a lot with Meghan’s wedding.

According to various sources, Meghan‘s work habits have not been well-received by people working with her. The duchess is known to get up very early in the morning and allegedly would start sending texts to her staff about all sorts of ideas and requests.

“It is said palace staff have never experienced anything remotely like Meghan’s formidable work ethic, matched only by the incessant stream of ideas about how to shape her role. Though the aides see her enthusiasm as well-meaning, her up and at ’em West Coast energy is an uncomfortable fit with the more formal ethos of some of the palace staff,” the Daily Mail said.

This, apparently, caused some employees to give her unfavorable nicknames such as “Me-Gain”, “Duchess Difficult”, and “Hurricane Meghan”.

How has Prince Harry reacted?

Unsurprisingly, Harry has not been too happy to hear about this issue.

Although he has not explicitly come out and announced to the press that he is angry, former palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who has known Harry for a long time, said to Nine News Australia: “He will be upset, he will want to keep his head down and he will want to protect Meghan.”

“I mean, you were here for the wedding and you saw how the media were operating,” he continued. “They were putting Meghan and Harry right up on a pedestal. Since the end of summer in the autumn, they have been chipping away at those pedestals and really having a go.”

Can Prince Harry put a stop to Meghan Markle’s nicknames?

Unfortunately, there is not much Harry can do about Meghan’s nicknames.

For one thing, he has very little power over what he can do when rumors about Meghan come up. As royals, Harry and Meghan can only respond to the media through the palace’s press secretary and, even then, the situations where their voices can be heard are limited. Thus, even when there is negative coverage of them and their family in the newspapers, most of the time they simply just have to keep their heads up and deal with everything coming their way.

Moreover, it’s not uncommon for employees to feel a disconnect with their boss and revert to talking about the person in charge behind their back, especially when the boss is someone like Meghan, who recently found herself being put in a different working environment than one that she is used to. Since Meghan herself is also living under a microscope all the time with everything around her constantly being reported on and dissected, it’s not surprising that news like this managed to get leaked.

However, Harry has been showing that he and Meghan are looking to do more to take charge of their image. They recently decided to start their own royal household with their own communications team, as well as create an Instagram account just for the two of them. Perhaps by choosing to control how they present themselves to the world, Harry and Meghan can offset a few negative words that are said about them.
