Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff Are Hollywood’s Next Big Stars

Hollywood may have found its two biggest young rising stars in the leads for the new John Greene adaptation Paper Towns. Supermodel Cara Delevingne and actor Nat Wolff have just been given the Rising Stars award at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, per Variety, but it didn’t take receiving that honor for Tinseltown to know that these two are the millennials that everyone is going to be talking about in the not-so-distant future.

Delevingne already has a huge following through her work as a model. Her Instagram account has 10.9 million followers, her famous friends include Rihanna and Kendall Jenner, and she’s posed for fashion houses including Burberry and DKNY. Though her fashion career has been massively successful for a 22-year-old, Delevingne seems dedicated to pursuing acting seriously rather than just taking on the occasional vanity role the way many supermodels do. Her first film role was a small part in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightley. Since then she’s landed two massive starring roles in highly anticipated films: the enigmatic female lead in Paper Towns and the villainess Enchantress in the DC Comic movie Suicide Squad.

This isn’t the first time a supermodel has decided to try her hand at acting, but the fact that Delevingne has landed such huge parts in big studio tentpoles is a sign that she has proven in auditions she can actually act. Models like Kate Upton have been included in movies such as last year’s The Other Woman for comedic value and recognizability, but not for their acting abilities. Delevingne seems to be different in this regard, as the studios would not have her in such big roles in two dramatic films if she couldn’t act. Millennials already relate to and aspire to be the model for her wild lifestyle and don’t-care attitude, so her presence in these movies will definitely draw in the younger crowd as well as add a beautiful and famous face.

As for Wolff, the actor-musician first earned recognition on the Nickelodeon show The Naked Brothers Band, which he starred in and composed the music for while his actress mother Polly Draper created and produced. The 20-year-old has since moved on to more serious projects, having gotten praise for his supporting role in that other John Green adaptation last year’s A Fault in Our Stars. He also acted alongside James Franco in the adaptation of Franco’s own book of short stories directed by Gia Coppola, Palo Alto. Wolff so impressed Franco that he has been drafted for Franco’s next literary adaptation, Steinbeck’s labor saga In Dubious Battle, which is currently filming.

Paper Towns is targeted at young adults and is essentially a lighthearted story about young love, but judging on both the trailer and the positive reviews the same team received for adapting A Fault in Our Stars, the movie looks like it will be enjoyable for young adults, fans of the book, and movie critics; a rare feat indeed. A Fault in Our Stars made its stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort into big rising stars. Paper Towns might help Delevingne and Wolff get even bigger.
