Cardi B spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about her life and relationships. During the interview, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper explains why she refused to attend marriage counseling with rapper Offset.
Offset and Cardi B ended their relationship following cheating rumors
After the breakup, Offset begged Cardi B, to take him back. During a video he made of himself, Offset addressed the cheating allegations, reports Page Six. Here’s the message he left for Cardi: “I apologize for… breaking your heart, breaking our promise, breaking God’s promise; I’m trying to be a better person,” he said in his video. “I want to get this off my shoulders, I want to get this off my back … I didn’t [sleep with] that girl but I was entertaining it, and I love you. I hope you forgive me. My birthday wish is just to have you back.” Offset also said he wanted to spend the holidays with Cardi B and their daughter, Kulture. “I love you, Kulture. I want to spend Christmas with you, I want to be able to spend the rest of my life with you,” he added.
Cardi B said she wasn’t going to date immediately after breaking up with Offset
You might expect Cardi B to jump at the chance to date after breaking up with Offset, but that wasn’t the case. The rapper says after news broke that her relationship with Offset was over, men started contacting her. However, she told Harper’s Bazaar reporter Vanessa Grigoriadis she wasn’t flattered by the attention.
I have a kid, and I’m also famous. So, I can’t just sleep with anybody. People talk. You know, if I date somebody in the industry, that’s another person in the industry. If I date somebody who is not in the industry, he might not understand my lifestyle. It’s like, ‘Bro, why would you want to holler at me right away? You’re weird.’ If you think Imma automatically hop onto you after a marriage, that just means you think I’m a sleaze. And I’m not. I have a kid—I have to show an example.
Offset Begged Cardi B to go to marriage counseling: Here’s why she refused
When asked if family or friends influenced Cardi B’s decision to leave Offset, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper says ‘no.’ She declared she is in charge when it comes to making life decisions. “No, I decided on my own,” she responds. “Nobody makes my decisions about my life but me.”
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Offset pleaded with Cardi B to see a marriage counselor. However, she says confiding in a stranger about her relationship with Offset didn’t appeal to her. She told the publication she felt confident in her decision at the time and didn’t want to be persuaded by someone outside their relationship to change her mind. “I didn’t want to go to marriage counseling,” she said. “He suggested it, but it’s like, ‘I don’t want to go.’ There’s no counselor or nothing that could make me change my mind.”
