Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj: How Nicki Has Capitalized on Their Feud
Rapper Nicki Minaj has never shied away from controversy. From her new boyfriend to her feud with Cardi B, 35-year-old Minaj embraces controversy. She has been paid handsomely for her time in the spotlight, too.
Minaj has earned millions of dollars from album sales and appearances, and the “Chun Li” rapper may have found yet a new way to make money. From a new line of merchandise to the vixens in her videos, Minaj is taking her feud with Cardi B to the bank.
After the shoe-throwing incident at New York Fashion Week, Cardi took to Instagram to issue a statement on how the feud escalated to physical violence.
Cardi’s statement read, “I’ve let a lot of s**t slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, f**k up the way I eat! You’ve threaten other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you’ll stop f**kin with them!! I let you talk big s**t about me!! I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped the plea!! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f**kin off!!”
Minaj addressed the accusations on her Queen Radio show, denying that she insulted Cardi’s parenting. “The only thing on your mind after you [gave birth] was to attack people and to stop their bags. And you wanna let your publicist write something about stopping bags?” Minaj said.
In October 2018, Minaj responded to Cardi’s claims of trying to stop her bags by turning the accusation into a meme and creating a line of backpacks, shirts, and jackets with “Nicki Stopped My Bag” across them.
Nicki Minaj’s ‘Good Form’ music video
On October 1, 2018, Cardi was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and reckless endangerment in connection with an August 29, 2018 brawl that occurred between Cardi’s entourage and two bartenders at Angels Strip Club in Queens. The brawl was the result of a feud between Cardi and the bartenders, sisters Jade and Baddie Gi, after Cardi accused Jade of sleeping with Offset.
Jade and Baddie Gi claimed that Cardi ordered the attack, which involved bottles and chairs thrown at the sisters. While it was initially reported that Cardi was not directly involved in the physical assault, the sisters say Cardi threw at least one bottle at them.
In late November, Minaj released the explicit video to her new single “Good Form.” Baddie Gi and Jade can be seen twerking on either side of Minaj at one point in the video. Minaj also posted a teaser photo to her Instagram, which shows both sisters sitting directly in front of her.
Nicki Minaj’s connection to Summer Bunni
Last week, Cardi made the announcement in a video posted to her Instagram that she and rapper Offset were getting divorced. Shortly after the announcement was made, rumors began to swirl that Offset had cheated on Cardi. Text messages were leaked that depicted Offset arranging a threesome with a woman named Summer Bunni and 20-year-old rapper Cuban Doll.
Hours after Cardi’s announcement, Summer Bunni posted a tearful apology to the Invasion of Privacy rapper, claiming she didn’t know how serious the rappers’ marriage was and she hadn’t hooked up with Offset since the birth of his daughter.
Days later, a link between Minaj and Summer Bunni was found when it was discovered that the alleged mistress appeared in the music video for Minaj and Tekashi 6ix9ine’s “Fefe,” which was released in July. Summer Bunni can be seen shooting whipped cream into her mouth in the music video. It’s unclear whether Minaj knew about the affair at the time or if the hiring of Summer Bunni was a coincidence.
