Cast Members of ‘The Good Place’ Have Strong Emotions After Filming Finale
The cast of the critically-acclaimed show The Good Place have officially wrapped filming for the show’s final season. Although die-hard fans would love to watch the show continue for many more years, creator Michael Schur elected to end the show before it could decrease in quality.
The show first premiered in 2016 on NBC and Kristen Bell, Jameela Jamil, Ted Danson, D’Arcy Carden, William Jackson Harper and Manny Jacinto make up the main cast. The cast has been known to post behind-the-scenes videos of filming, so it’s only fitting some of the cast members have shared their personal farewells to the show on social media.
Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto say good-bye to ‘The Good Place‘
Jameela Jamil was the first main cast member to share her thoughts on her last day of filming. On Instagram, the actress wrote she became emotional when it was announced that her work with the character Tahani Al-Jamil was complete. “I love this show, and I can’t believe how much it changed my life,” she said. “Gah. What a mess I will be for a while.”
On The Good Place, Manny Jacinto plays Jason Mendoza, an unsuccessful DJ from Florida. Playing Jason has been a breakthrough career move for Jacinto; The Good Place is the first show where he plays a main character. Jacinto also enjoys playing the role because the character Jason goes against the stereotype Asian men typically portray in movies and television.
“The thing that propelled me forward was the fact that this industry is so unfair…,” he told GQ. “It really got to me. That’s what pushed me forward, to try and change that.”
It’s no wonder the ending of The Good Place is bittersweet for Jacinto. When he finished filming, he tweeted a collage of photos of the cast with the caption “Four years goes by quick.”
Marc Evan Jackson posts his farewell to ‘The Good Place‘
The six main cast members are not the only actors from the show to pay homage to The Good Place. Marc Evan Jackson plays the supporting character Shawn and finished filming the fourth season a few weeks earlier than the main cast. He posted the same photo as Jacinto on Instagram with the caption, “Earlier today, I shot my last ever scene for NBC’s The Good Place. I haven’t the words for what this show means to me. Thank you, everyone. Thank you, Mike Schur. Thank you for The Good Place. Mmmmm…you know.”
On the show, Jackson’s character Shawn is an evil immortal, though Jackson’s sarcastic portrayal has made him a fan favorite. Jackson might not be part of the main cast, but the cast members clearly love him as much as the fans do. Kristen Bell, who plays lead character Eleanor Shellstrop, tweeted at Jackson, “you are our favorite little devil” following his goodbye posts.
When will ‘The Good Place’ season 4 air?
While fans are sad the last season of The Good Place has finished filming, they can still look forward to watching it this fall. The fourth season of The Good Place is expected to premiere on September 26, 2019. While past seasons only had 13 episodes, the fourth season will have 14 episodes. To make matters better for fans, the series finale of the show will be an hour long.
“We’re conceiving of it as an hour-long episode. It is a full, series-ending, wrap-up kind of a thing,” said Schur. “So it will have one gigantic story that will serve as the end of the series for everybody.”
As one of the wittiest shows on television, The Good Place’s fourth and final season is sure to deliver a satisfying and hilarious conclusion. It’s ending the way the creators intended, and will be available on Netflix even after it’s off the air.
