Many casts end up getting attached to each other after working on a movie or television show together. So parting might be hard and they want to celebrate. This usually happens through a wrap party, but a lot of casts have been making a much more personal gesture, like all getting tattoos together.
The cast of Suicide Squad made headlines for this along with all the crazy things Jared Leto did on set. But they were hardly the first or last to get inked together as a cast. Here seven casts of movies and television shows that got tattoos together.
1. Game of Thrones
The characters on Game of Thrones are often very spread out and many of the cast members don’t interact much on-screen. But behind the scenes many of the actors are close. That is especially the case for Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner who play sisters on the show.
The actresses are often making funny Vine videos together. After years of working together and being friends they made the big move of getting matching tattoos in 2016. “She’s one of my best friends in the whole world,” Williams told E! News. “We got matching tattoos.” Their tattoos read “07.08.09.” in the color peach. “That’s the date that we both heard we got Game of Thrones on … I got it the other day. [It’s] still a bit crusty.”

This wasn’t a decision made on a whim. “We always kind of said we want matching [tattoos],” Turner explained. “The date was always really significant … and then with Thrones we were always planning from Season 1, like if we could make it all the way through, hopefully we could all get a matching thing.”
2. The Lord of the Rings
The movie franchise had a pretty big run in terms of money and time. So it makes sense that the cast members would bond to the point of wanting to get tattoos together at the end of filming The Lord of the Rings series.
“We felt the experience was both wonderful enough and profound enough to have ourselves branded,” Elijah Wood said at the premiere, “so we went ahead and did that about a week before we finished.” That includes Sir Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom, and Viggo Mortensen. Mortensen went on to explain what the tattoo means.
We all got the same one — the word “nine” in Elvish — because that’s what we are, nine. I visited the tattooist a couple times, showed him the drawing and stuff. I didn’t say anything about Ian McKellen or whoever may be coming in. He just did it. We did all meet one morning and it was an interesting event, and I enjoyed it. Half a day. Actually everyone showed up. It goes along with all the other scars we got!
3. Suicide Squad
The set of the comic book adaptation involved a lot of antics between the cast members. But only one had long lasting effects and that was the tattoos that some of the cast got together. Margot Robbie who played Harley Quinn was given a tattoo gun, and she was able to give multiple actors tattoos.
“Picture what a 4-year-old would draw and stick it on your fridge. That’s kind of one of my tattoos,” she joked with ET. “Like little stick figures.” Cara Delevingne and Robbie ended up tattooing each other’s toes. But there was one cast tattoo that didn’t go as planned.
“I did spell one [tattoo] wrong once though …” she admitted on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “I was writing a word and I spelled it wrong. When we were shooting Suicide Squad we all got SKWAD tattoos. Everyone was spelling it as ‘S’ ‘K’ ‘W’ ‘A’ ‘D’. But I went straight from the ‘S’ to the ‘W.'” Sadly, it was Jai Courtney’s assistant who got the misspelled tattoo.

The musical sitcom lasted six seasons and has made a lot of stars. Also the cast sadly experienced a loss with the death of Cory Monteith. So it makes sense that the show means a lot to many of the cast members. They decided to get a tattoo together.
“I got a tattoo of ‘Imagine’ with my cast member Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) and Kevin McHale (Artie); then me, Jenn, and Amber Riley (Mercedes) got little star tattoos together,” Lea Michele said according to WetPaint. “It was so fun!”
That’s not the only tattoo Michele got to remember the show. She was dating Monteith at the time of his death. So she also got a small tattoo that reads “Finn” on her butt cheek referring to the name of his character on Glee. She revealed it in a nude photo shoot for Women’s Health.
5. Mad Max: Fury Road
The movie shows Furiosa trying to save women who are sex slaves to a tyrant. The movie is all about these women sticking together to survive. So perhaps there was some type of bonding behind the scenes. That bonding involved some ink.
Courtney Eaton told Vanity Fair. “We all got the same tattoo — three little dots and a triangle.” That includes Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Abbey Lee. They all ended up getting them after the movie wrapped.
6. Breaking Bad
The drama is definitely a fan favorite and was nominated for many awards. It also made audiences view Bryan Cranston as something other than the dad on Malcolm in the Middle. Aaron Paul became a household name from his interesting role. So in the end, the two stars wanted to walk away with reminders of the great work they’d done.
Paul got “No Half Measures” tattooed on his arm in cursive. This is referring to the title of an episode from Season 3. Cranston got the show’s logo tattooed on his finger.
“I wanted something … something that would give me private personal pleasure,” Cranston told GQ “like when I pass by and catch a glimpse of a picture of my mom, or my old manager people who are gone now.” He then continued, “And it seemed appropriate. I mean, Breaking Bad changed my life.”
7. Pretty Little Liars
The mystery show had friends in high school try to figure out who is threatening them through anonymous messages. This person went by “A.” The show is now wrapping up after seven seasons so hopefully all of the mysterious questions will be answered.
After all that time it makes sense that the cast became very close. In order to celebrate the end, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario, and Sasha Pieterse got matching tattoos on their index finger with their first initials. This is so it will show if they ever do their iconic “shhh” gesture again.
