Celebrities Are Fleeing California Wildfires, and Some of Their Homes Have Already Burned

A fast-moving wildfire has forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Since igniting on Thursday, the Woolsey Fire and the Hill Fire have burned more than 20,000 acres in Southern California as of early Friday afternoon, according to CalFire, and are 0% contained.

The fire is burning not far from the site of Wednesday’s mass shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. Residents struggling to cope with that tragedy are now confronted with another disaster, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The fires are burning in an area that is home to numerous celebrities. As the fire has moved toward Malibu and the Pacific Ocean, stars are among the many residents who’ve been ordered to leave their homes. Many are sharing the frightening experience on social media.

Charmed actress Alyssa Milano was among those who had to leave. “I just had to evacuate my home from the fires,” she tweeted. “I took my kids, dogs, computer, and my Doc Marten boots.” She added that her husband, agent David Bugliari, was safe in New York and that her trainer was evacuating her horses.

Star Wars star Mark Hamill tweeted images of the fire, which he said was “dangerously close” to his home. Hamill assured fans he and his family were safe, though.

Rainn Wilson of The Office also had to flee. “Please send your prayers to the people of Thousand Oaks and the victims of the shooting that are now having to evacuate their homes and neighborhoods,” he tweeted.

The Kardashians were also affected. Khloe Kardashian tweeted: “I can’t believe this is happening … completely devastating for anyone for anyone who loses tangible memories and the security of their home.” Her sister Kim Kardashian tweeted that flames hit her Hidden Hills property, “but are now more contained.”

Caitlyn Jenner’s home destroyed

Caitlyn Jenner was not as fortunate as her former stepdaughters. Her Malibu home has burned, TMZ reported. It’s one of dozens of houses already destroyed by the blaze. Jenner evacuated safely.

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson’s home was also destroyed by the fire. “We lost our home, but we are all safe and that’s the important thing,” he tweeted.

Director Guillermo del Toro’s second home “Bleak House” was also in danger. The home contains his large collection of books, movie memorabilia, and other artifacts.

“Evacuated last night,” del Toro tweeted on Friday morning. “Bleak House and the collection may be endangered but the gift of life remains.”

Westworld filming location among the structures burned

The Woolsey Fire also destroyed the Western Town at Paramount Ranch in Agoura. The set was a filming location for movies and TV shows, including HBO’s Westworld, The X-Files, Gunsmoke, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, and Bone Tomahawk.

A separate brush fire was also burning in L.A.’s Griffith Park, forcing the closure of the city’s zoo. In Northern California, five people were killed after they became trapped in their cars when trying to escape the Camp Fire, the New York Times reported. Large swaths of the state are currently under a red flag warning, meaning that the fire danger is very high.
