Kaley Cuoco and 14 Other Celebrities Who Rushed into Marriage When Young

Marriages end more often than they last in the world of Hollywood. However, many of the most high-profile divorces could have potentially been avoided if some celebrities hadn’t rushed down the aisle.

The Big Bang Theory star, Kaley Cuoco, unfortunately found herself at the center of a divorce after a whirlwind marriage, which she claimed “ruined” the idea of getting married again. From getting married at 17 years old (page 7) to knowing each other for only one month before tying the knot (page 10), these celebrity marriages were destined to fail.

Kaley Cuoco fell head-over-heels in love with Ryan Sweeting — so much so that it took only three months of dating for the actress and tennis player to get engaged. They got married just three months later in a secret ceremony on Dec. 31, 2013.

However, in September 2015, the two announced that they’d “mutually decided” to go their separate ways. A source told People, “It seemed they were trying to work out their marriage by going on dates, but they both seemed miserable.”

Now, Cuoco is happily engaged to Karl Cook. Her professional equestrian fiancé announced on Instagram, “Well after nearly two years I finally got up the courage to ask her to marry me. This is the best night of my life and I think the video shows it is the best night for kaley as well… of she said yes!”

Katie Holmes may now be in a super secretive relationship with Jamie Foxx, but back in the day, she was in a super high-profile marriage with Tom Cruise. They got engaged within two months of meeting each other back in 2005, after years of Holmes reportedly crushing on Cruise.

In October 2004, Holmes admitted to Seventeen magazine, “I think every little girl dreams about (her wedding). I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise.” She ended up doing just that in November 2006, following the delivery of their daughter, Suri, in April of the same year.

Their marriage lasted until 2012, which is pretty long for a celebrity marriage.

3. Kim Kardashian

Third time’s a charm in terms of marriages for Kim Kardashian. She’s now blissfully married to Kanye West, but she gave marriage a try two times before him. The first time she tied the knot, she was just 20 years old in 2000. She wed music producer Damon Thompson, but they ended up divorcing in 2004.

Her first marriage didn’t stop her from rushing into her infamous 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries. They wed on Aug. 20, 2011, after a 90-day engagement — and it basically ended before it began. Kardashian cited “irreconcilable differences,” which led them to a messy divorce that lasted longer than their entire relationship.

We’ll never forget the days of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, no matter how brief. They married in September 2004 when Spears was 23, only five months after they met. They had two children together, Sean and Jayden, but they divorced after two and a half years of marriage.

In 2008, Spears opened up about her relationship with Federline in a documentary. According to the Daily Mail, she admitted, “I think I married for the wrong reasons. Instead of following my heart and doing something that made me really happy, I just did it for the idea of everything.”

It seems like actors Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis have been a couple forever. However, back in the day, Wilde married into royalty when she was just 19 years old. She wed Italian prince Tao Ruspoli in 2003, but they separated in February 2011.

She admitted to Us Weekly, “I really had a sense that I had stunted my growth. I think that’s one of the things that made me feel so uncomfortable in my marriage.”

“It was really no fault of my husband,” Wilde added. “It was me realizing that I had sort of arrested development. I knew the only way I was going to grow the f*** up was to learn to take care of myself.”

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie may have been together for three years before getting married in 2010, but she was only 22 when they became husband and wife. They became parents together in March 2012, when their son Luca was born.

The couple ended up divorcing in 2016, but their split went surprisingly smoothly for a Hollywood couple (or any couple, for that matter). While appearing on Ellen around the time of their divorce, Duff admitted, “We are good friends and we laugh a lot and we have a great communication.”

She added, “We share pictures when one is not with Luca. Yeah, he’s great. We are great and we keep on trucking.”

In March 1994, she walked down the aisle with Jeremy Thomas, a British bartender. However, their marriage was brief, as she filed for divorce after two months.

It’s hard to believe it was all the way back in 2002 when Jessica Simpson married Nick Lachey. Simpson was just 22 when they tied the knot, and soon became the faces of MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

The show premiered in August 2003 — by which point they didn’t exactly classify as newlyweds anymore. However, as E! News noted, “Fast forward just a few years and they would forever become the poster exes for why it’s almost never a good idea for couples to do a show that’s going to focus mainly on the inner workings of their relationship.”

They officially divorced in 2006, but we’ll never forget their highly publicized time together.

They had one son together, Bronx, in November 2008. However, they ended up divorcing after three years of marriage.

It didn’t take long for Khloé Kardashian to fall for NBA player Lamar Odom. They met in August 2009, and just one month later, a 25-year-old Kardashian was walking down the aisle. The couple even got their own Keeping Up With the Kardashians spinoff series, Khloé & Lamar, which ran for two seasons.

Things went south once Odom found himself battling substance abuse and being arrested for a DUI. His issues led to problems in their relationship, pushing Kardashian to file for divorce in December 2013. Their divorce ended up being a long one, taking until 2016 to finally become official.

Kardashian moved on from Odom, seeming to have found happiness with her boyfriend, Tristan Thompson. They became parents to their first daughter together, True, in April 2018. However, scandal now surrounds their relationship as Thompson was caught cheating on Kardashian in a New York City club just two days before their daughter was born.

If Demi Moore never rushed into marriage as a teenager, we would know her as a completely different name. She wed musician Freddy Moore when she was just 18, and they stayed together for four years before divorcing.

She’s since been married to Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher — both of which were high-profile marriages that ended in high-profile divorces.

Her ex-husband, Daniel Smith, is the father of her only child, Daniel Julez Smith, Jr. Knowles divorced from Smith after three years of marriage. In March 2014, she threw shade at her past relationships in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. She claimed, “Luckily, I dated all of the losers ages ago. My love life has been stable for a while.”

Child star Macaulay Culkin got married to former actress Rachel Miner back in 1998 when he was just 18. After tying the knot at such a young age, it didn’t come as a shock when they split two years later.

In 2002, Culkin moved on to Mila Kunis, who he dated for nine years. According to the Daily Mail, they went their separate ways after Kunis “confronted Macaulay about his drug habit,” which reportedly got even more out of control after their split.

A source told People, “She married too young and she finally realized that. Avril realized she needs her own life and needs to explore things without him.”

Lavigne has since tied the knot with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, but they were only married from 2013 to 2015.
