Celebrities Who Have Spoken out Against Donald Trump

Of all the presidents in our nation’s history, Donald Trump has arguably been the most polarizing. His inflammatory opinions on just about every major issue have made him into an eminently controversial politician, a title that’s only increased during his presidency.

This has made it so Trump isn’t short on enemies, especially among notable celebrities. Well-known political pundits, musicians, and actors alike have all had strong words for Trump. It’s a figurative line around the block, in terms of people speaking out against the businessman-turned-president. What’s surprising is that this criticism is coming from both sides of the political aisle, showing that you don’t have to be in the opposing party to cringe at Trump’s antics.

1. Louis C.K.

Louis C.K. is a comedian known for speaking his mind on all manner of issues. In a newsletter to his fans, he took that quality to the next level, haranguing Donald Trump in a biting commentary. “The guy is Hitler,” he wrote, going on to clarify, “And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s. Do you think they saw the sh*t coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.”

Calling Trump Hitler is low-hanging fruit to say the least, but the comparison is apt nonetheless given his overtly racist stance on Mexican immigrants.

2. Samantha Bee

Samantha has made no secret of her opinions on Donald Trump throughout the initial run of her new series on TBS, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. One such instance had her likening the president to Barney, as “an atavistic monster with a limited vocabulary who appeals to people operating at the level of a 4-year-old.” Since then, she’s made a regular habit of speaking out against Trump on a weekly basis, attacking both him and his cabinet.

3. Patton Oswalt

Patton Oswalt is another comedian who’s consistently spoken his mind, and the topic of Donald Trump is no exception. You can see the tweet from 2016 above, with the comparison to Hitler once again rearing its head as the most prominent parallel at the time.

4. John Oliver

Of all the people who’ve spoken out against Donald Trump, none have done so quite as skillfully as John Oliver on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Oliver broke it all down in a masterful 20-minute investigation, going point-by-point on every pro-Trump opinion, and showing why each and every one of those opinions is based off of lies and misdirection.

This was further strengthened by the launching of a campaign to start calling Trump by his ancestral name of Drumpf, taking away the power of a flashy name and replacing it with something decidedly more mundane.

5. Megyn Kelly

This is where we begin to see the cracks in the veneer of Donald Trump’s persona: When even his own party stalwarts were fearful of his potential election. Kelly and Trump feuded throughout the primaries, brought on by her scathingly thorough questioning of him in numerous debates hosted by Fox News. At one point, Trump even skipped out on one of those debates in “protest” of her alleged bias against him.

6. Glenn Beck

Admittedly, Glenn Beck has never been a fan of Donald Trump, having spoken out against Trump’s more liberal leanings back in August of 2015. Recently though, the conservative pundit has come forward with even harsher words.

We all look at Adolf Hitler in 1940. We should look at Adolf Hitler in 1929. He was a kind of a funny kind of character that said the things people were thinking. Where Donald Trump takes it, I have absolutely no idea. But Donald Trump is a dangerous man with the things that he has been saying.

Once again, we see the Hitler comparison come to light, this time from the other side of the aisle. When Democrats and Republicans are agreeing during a time when the two parties have never been more polarized, it’s clear that something might really be wrong.

7. Meryl Streep

Renowned actress Meryl Streep became the latest celebrity to speak out against Donald Trump when she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award during the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me — it sank its hooks in my heart,” said Streep. “Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh, and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter.”

Streep was referring to an incident in 2015 when Trump mocked a disabled reporter from The New York Times, as reported by CNN. In response to Streep’s speech, Trump tweeted that he “never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter” and called the three-time Oscar winner “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood.”

8. Seth Meyers

Seth Meyers has come a long way from his days as a Saturday Night Live cast member. Now, the host of his own late-night talk-show on NBC, Meyers’ segment titled “A Closer Look” makes a point to dive into the latest Trump-related crisis, and minces no words about his personal views on the president.

He’s covered everything from Michael Flynn’s controversial resignation, to Trump’s abuse of presidential power, and odds are it’s made him few friends inside the White House.

9. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Admittedly, this was a fight that Donald Trump himself started, after openly criticizing the ratings of the new The Celebrity Apprentice, now hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In his Twitter tirade, Trump cited his own ratings when he was on the show, while criticizing his successor for supporting Hillary Clinton in the election.

Schwarzenegger, never one to take trash-talk sitting down, responded wonderfully, saying “I wish you the best of luck and I hope you’ll work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings.”

10. Stephen Colbert

You’d be hard-pressed to find a late-night host that isn’t openly declaring war on Donald Trump’s presidency. Enter Stephen Colbert, who’s seen a significant ratings bump since doubling down on his anti-Trump stances on-air on a weekly basis. The former Comedy Central star hasn’t been shy in the slightest, calling White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller a liar, and going as far as to label Michael Flynn’s connections to Russia treasonous.
