Celebrities Who You Didn’t Know Had a Twin
The secret lives of our favorite celebrities can be intriguing. We follow their social media, watch interviews, and stalk gossip sites to learn new things about them. We look into their career history, astrological signs, and even research their home lives, including their families. And one interesting nugget of info? When a celebrity has a twin!
There are a number of celebrities who are known for being twins: Cole and Dylan Sprouse, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Tia and Tamera Mowry come to mind as famous twins who made it big side by side. But not all twins get into the biz together.
The following celebrities have a twin who is either not famous or less so than their well-known counterpart.
1. Gisele Bündchen
One of the most celebrated and successful models of all time, Gisele Bündchen has a rich history. She was a Victoria’s Secret model in the early to mid-‘00s, and gained notoriety for her more full-figured look. In the last decade, she has continued to model in addition to acting and recording music.
Bündchen is also known for being a Brazilian-born German model. She grew up in a large family with five sisters, including her twin, Patricia. The two are fraternal twins, and Patricia has worked with Bündchen in the past, specifically on the model’s lingerie line.
Bündchen is very family-oriented, frequently posting throwback pictures on Instagram of her siblings and parents, alongside those of her children with Tom Brady.
2. Eva Green
French actress and model Eva Green has risen to prominence by portraying complex, individualistic characters on screen. From her role as double-agent Bond girl, Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, to her portrayal of the eponymous headmistress in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Green is no stranger to the dark and mysterious, reflected in her jet black hair.
But one mystery has been solved: that of her parentage. Green grew up with her fraternal twin sister, Joy, in Paris. In a 2003 interview, Green explained that she and Joy are very different from one another in looks and personality. Allegedly, Joy is married, living in the French countryside, and working with horses.
3. Ashton Kutcher
Though he started off as a lovable goofball on That ‘70s Show and his MTV series, Punk’d, Ashton Kutcher has become known for more serious accomplishments over the last several years. Kutcher founded the digital platform A Plus in 2014, and has spoken out on a variety of issues, including human trafficking, which he has put many resources toward.
A passion for important causes seems to run in the family. Kutcher’s twin brother, Michael, has cerebral palsy, and is on the executive board of Reaching for the Stars, a nonprofit foundation for children with the same disability. Together, the two make a humanitarian team their parents should be proud of.
4. Linda Hamilton
Despite being known for one very big role, that of Sarah Connor in the Terminator series, Linda Hamilton has maintained a steady career over her 30 plus years in Hollywood. Long before her most recent recurring role in Defiance, Hamilton paid her dues, developing partial deafness from filming.
Growing up in Maryland, Hamilton lived with her mother, stepfather, and three siblings, including her identical twin sister, Leslie. Now known as Leslie Gearren, she is a registered nurse, but has appeared on screen as her sister’s body double in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. How handy must that have been?
5. Joseph Fiennes
Actor Joseph Fiennes is known for playing the Bard himself in Shakespeare in Love, the Monsignor in American Horror Story: Asylum, and is in the Hulu series, The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s no surprise that his body of work is impressive — after all, he comes from a very artistic family.
Need proof? His father was a photographer and illustrator, and his mother was a writer and painter. The two have five children in the business: Ralph, an actor; Martha and Sophie, both director/producers; Magnus, a music composer and producer; and Joseph himself. Additionally, Joseph has a twin brother, Jacob, who, against all odds has chosen a career as a conservationist. There’s clearly a lot of talent in those genes.
6. Vin Diesel
Born Mark Sinclair, the actor now known as Vin Diesel may be most recognized for his role in the Fast and the Furious series. The action star has also become known for his voice and motion capture work as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. Diesel has also acted as a producer on the Fast and the Furious films, and wrote and directed the short film Los Bandoleros, for the franchise.
Though he has never met his biological father, Diesel grew up in a loving home with his mother, stepfather, and twin brother, Paul. Since his brother shared a first name with Diesel’s costar and close friend, the late Paul Walker, a photo was taken of the two and shared on Facebook following Walker’s untimely death. (Note: Vin Diesel’s brother is on the right.)
Diesel’s brother has been said to be a producer, but there’s no proof of this, as he continues to live a low-profile life.
7. Kiefer Sutherland
Coming from actor parents is enough pressure for anyone, but Kiefer Sutherland has managed to take it all in stride. Born in the U.K. and growing up in Toronto, Sutherland was not much of a student, bouncing around between high schools and only attending a semester of college. But he soon excelled in his profession, now best-known for his lead role in the long-running TV series, 24.
Though everyone knows Sutherland’s father, Donald, and may be familiar with the work of his mother, Shirley Douglas, few know that there’s one more person in his immediate family. Rachel Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland’s twin sister, is also in the biz, working behind-the-scenes in post-production. The twins have three younger half-brothers from Donald’s third marriage, all of whom are Hollywood-adjacent as well.
8. Tiki Barber
This list is full of actors, but sports stars are celebrities too. Tiki Barber, a retired football player for the New York Giants, has become a household name due to his career stats. During his post-competitive years, he has acted as an NBC correspondent, and has made headlines for various controversies including elements of his personal life.
Barber has six children, two of whom are twin girls. Interestingly, Barber himself is a twin: He and his brother, Ronde, are identical, and the latter has also made a living as a professional athlete. Ronde played football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 15 years, and, unlike his brother, has mostly stayed under the radar in terms of gossip. He is now a broadcaster with Fox Sports, and has worked with his twin on eight children’s books.
9. Parker Posey
Indie darling Parker Posey has graced screens big and small for the last 25 years, but still remains relatively unknown to mainstream audiences. Posey is likely best known for her early role in Dazed and Confused, as well as for her turn on Louie and her part in Woody Allen’s Irrational Man.
She’s been open about her struggles as a working actress in a time when the lead in independent films is often a high profile star.
Posey grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi. She rose from humble beginnings, as one of two siblings raised in a Catholic home. Her twin brother, Christopher, is supposedly working as a lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia.
10. Olly Murs
The 32-year-old X Factor contestant has made quite a name for himself in the last several years. Olly Murs was the first runner-up in the sixth series of the U.K. show, and has put out five albums in quick succession since scoring a major record deal through Simon Cowell. Though they’ve been separated for over a year, Murs has been in the news during his most recent tour for expressing heartbreak over his ex, Francesca Thomas.
Murs is clearly a gentle soul, but his family life has been a bit of a struggle. Sadly, he and his parents are estranged from his twin brother, Ben, who was unhappy with Olly’s fame. In fact, Ben has changed his last name to Hart, taking on his wife’s surname.
11. Nicholas Brendon
With 2017 marking the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Nicholas Brendon has been in the spotlight more than usual. Since the series ended, the actor who portrayed the humorous Xander, sidekick to the Slayer, hasn’t had great luck propelling his career forward. Aside from Buffy, Brendon is best known for a recurring role on Criminal Minds, as well as a notable guest spot on Private Practice.
Brendon is a Los Angeles native, as is his twin brother, Kelly Donovan. The two both tried their hand at acting in their younger years, with Donovan actually serving as Brendon’s stunt double in two episodes of Buffy. Though little is known personally about Donovan, the two identical brothers have appeared together at comic conventions.
12. Judy Reyes
The Bronx-raised Judy Reyes has lit up TV screens for many years with her bright smile. With notable roles as Carla on Scrubs and Zoila on Devious Maids, Reyes has had a steady career as an actor for decades. She most recently appeared in a few episodes of the first season of the Netflix Original sitcom, One Day at a Time.
Like her Scrubs character, Reyes has a large family. The actress has three sisters, one of whom is her twin, Joselin. Though less well-known, Joselin is also an actress, most prominently appearing on Law & Order: SVU as a paramedic almost every year since 2003. Joselin also played Gabriella, Carla’s sister, in two episodes of Scrubs.
13. Munro Chambers
Canadian actor Munro Chambers has had a busy last few years. Though he began acting as a child, his career began to pick up when he starred as a long-time lead on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Chambers’ role as Eli, a bipolar student who learned to cope with his affliction throughout the series, has helped him score roles in Canadian projects.
Because he hasn’t hit mainstream success, little is known about Chambers’ personal life. However, in the age of social media, it’s easier to discover tidbits of information, including the fact that Chambers has a twin brother, Thomas. The two are identical, and, in the past, Chambers has shared photos of the two on his Instagram account.
14. Rami Malek
The Los Angeles-born actor has been in the game for some time, dating back to his notable role in the Night at the Museum films and his breakthrough gig as Snafu in The Pacific. But it wasn’t until 2015 that he became a household name as the star of the Amazon series Mr. Robot, which won him an Emmy.
As Rami Malek continues to work steadily in Hollywood, details about him have emerged. One notable fact? He has an identical twin brother with a strikingly similar name: Sami. Sami stays out of the limelight, working as a middle school teacher. He once appeared on Jimmy Kimmel with his famous sibling.
15. Scarlett Johansson
Whether she’s kicking bad guy butt as Black Widow or making waves with her Ghost in the Shell role, Scarlett Johansson has continued to be a powerful presence on screen. She earned early acclaim for her romantic lead role in Lost in Translation, and is often referred to as a sex symbol.
Raised in New York City, Johansson has three older siblings, as well as a twin brother, Hunter. Hunter appeared in a film alongside his sister, Manny & Lo, more than 20 years ago. Since then, Hunter has made several political and charitable contributions, including working on former President Obama’s reelection campaign in 2008. His views seem to align nicely with those of his sister’s, who has also shown support for the Democratic Party in the past.
