Celebrity Meltdowns Caught on Social Media
Fame can be overwhelming. The constant hounding of fans and paparazzi, personal information being strewn across the media, and the continuous anxiety of having to be your best self can be too much for most folks. Just like regular people, celebrities often take to their social media accounts to express themselves and to rant or vent about the things they are going through.
Unfortunately, social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram aren’t always the best avenue for anyone to air their dirty laundry. Often times, vents and rants can lead to full-blown meltdowns. These celebrities totally lost it on social media.
In 2013, actress Amanda Bynes had a full-blown mental breakdown on Twitter. She began styling herself with multicolored hair, got cheek piercings, and she also began ranting and acting erratically. At one point, she said that she wanted rapper Drake to “murder [her] vagina.” She even reached out to then-President Barack Obama to help her get out of a drunk driving arrest.
Unfortunately, Bynes was suffering from a string of mental health issues. She was involuntarily admitted to a mental health facility in Oct. 2014, and thankfully she has been on the mend since.
Next: A Fast and Furious star’s downward spiral
In late 2017, actor Tyrese Gibson was accused of child abuse by his ex-wife, Norma Mitchell Gibson. Mitchell Gibson alleged that the singer/actor had hit their daughter, Shayla, 12-16 times in August 2017. As a result, a child abuse investigation was opened, and Mitchell Gibson was given temporary legal custody of Shayla and a temporary restraining order against the Fast and Furious star.
After the allegations, Gibson began to spiral out of control ranting on Instagram and Twitter, weeping and getting into a feud with his Fast and Furious co-star, Dwayne Johnson. The Baby Boy star even alleged that Will and Jada Smith gave him $5 million to help him with his financial and legal troubles.
This went on for weeks until Gibson was cleared of all allegations. Later, Tyrese claimed that his breakdown was due to some anxiety medication that he began taking to help him cope with everything.
Next: A Travel Network star’s horrific rant
Food Network and Travel Channel star Adam Richman nearly blew up his entire carer because he could not stomach negative comments about himself. In 2014, the former Man v. Food host posted a photo on his Instagram with the hashtag, #thinspiration.
An Instagram user pointed out that the term was not body positive and Richman lost his mind. He raged at the user, calling them a “c**t” and telling another to commit suicide and eat a bag of “sh*t.” Needless to say his show was pushed back from June 2014 to July 2015. We think it should have been canceled altogether. Sometimes it’s best just to log off.
Next: A child actress who fell off the deep end.
It’s no secret that Lindsay Lohan had a rough childhood and adolescence which were a result of her unstable parents and her mega-fame. Though she seems to be in a much better place now, she jumped on Twitter to put her father on blast in 2010.
She tweeted, “He has NEVER paid child support and can barely spell his own name due to his “brain” that has been ruined due to HIS drug use. Let’s not forget, that my father KIDNAPPED me from a COURT ROOM when I was 4 years old and is CRAZY.”

Sadly, when reality TV show hosts rise to the highest office of the land, we have to deal with the President of the United States being a Twitter troll. Twitter is President Trump’s favorite form of ranting, raving, and voicing his opinion.
Trump has no sense of diplomacy or decorum. His most recent rants have gone on for days at a time and are being thrown towards anyone whom he feels has wronged him.
Next: An eclectic Disney Channel star
Actor Shia LaBeouf is no stranger to odd behavior. In fact, he’s acted erratically in public several times, including fighting with a homeless person and being arrested for disorderly conduct. However, he’s also taken his strange thoughts to Twitter.
In 2014, after hearing comedian Jim Carrey poke fun at him at the Golden Globes, LaBeouf tweeted, “If you explain @JimCarrey you’ve killed him, Nobody knows if it’s for real or not. That way he’s immortal.” Odd to say the least.
Next: A notorious Baldwin brother
Over the years, Alec Baldwin has shown that he has quite the temper on him. From rants with the paparazzi to outbursts on TV, he’s also taken to social media to express his grievances.
In June 2013, Daily Mail reporter George Stark accused Baldwin’s wife of tweeting during Sopranos star James Gandolfini’s funeral. Baldwin got on Twitter and went on the attack. He tweeted, “I’m gonna find you . . . you toxic little queen, and I’m gonna f**k . . . you . . . up … [I’d] put my foot up your f**king a**, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much.”
At least he was defending his wife, right? *Kanye shrug*
Next: A deranged rapper
Azealia Banks uses social media as her own personal diary, attacking fans, celebrities, and everyone in between. She once attacked Rihanna, who voiced her concern over the election of President Donald Trump.
Banks, who stands for everything and nothing at all, took to Twitter to say, “As far as Rihanna (who isn’t a citizen, and can’t vote) and all the rest of the celebrities who are using their influence to stir the public, you lot really REALLY need to shut up and sit down.” Banks should probably get off Twitter and keep her homophobia and awfulness to herself.
Next: An outlandish MC
Acclaimed rapper Kanye West had begun showing signs of distress and mental exhaustion long before his Nov. 2016 breakdown which forced him to cancel his tour and enter the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Though West isn’t actually a massive social media user, one of his stranger posts during that time was a message on Twitter, where he claimed to be $53 million in debt and begged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to, “invest 1 billion dollars into Kanye West ideas.” Luckily, the eclectic rapper seems to be doing much better these days.
Next: One of the Kardashians
In December 2016, Rob Kardashian lost his mind after coming home to find that his then-fiancé Blac Chyna had moved out of his home and taken her newborn daughter, Dream, with her. The reality star hopped on Snapchat and Instagram and began exposing Chyna’s private intimate pictures and personal messages. He then deleted his pages.
Black Chyna went on to hire a lawyer, but it looks like the former couple has at least agreed on their daughter’s custody and well-being.
Next: A rapper who started an amazing social media challenge
Many of us get on social media and attempt to present ourselves in the best light possible, but rapper Bow Wow seems just to flat-out lie. In May 2017, the Growing Up Hip-Hop star took to IG to claim that he was heading off to New York City on a luxurious private jet.
Fans quickly did a Google image search to find the photo already online, and a passenger on Bow Wow’s commercial flight tweeted a picture of the rapper sitting near him in coach. Though Bow Wow was embarrassed, he did spark the iconic #BowWowChallenge.
Next: The chef who refused to apologize.
In 2013, news broke the Paula Dean had been using racial slurs against black people, as well as using discriminatory practices in her business. Food Network quickly fired the once beloved star chef, and instead of letting her PR team step in, Dean took to YouTube and posted some bizarre pseudo-apology videos without ever saying the words, “I’m sorry.”
She later went on The Today Show and exclaimed, “Would I have fired me? Knowing me? No, I is what I is, and there’s a couple of kinds of people that I don’t like, that I am prejudiced against, Matt — and that’s thieves and liars.” Um…
Next: A songstress who crashed and burned
In 2016, we all watched Iggy Azalea rise and fall. Unable to handle the attention and the pitfalls of fame, Azalea took to her Twitter to share personal details about her relationship, attack her record label claiming they had not supported her music, and even throwing shade at Beyoncé. (A major no-no.)
Though Azalea tried to clear up some of her behavior with further rants, she effectively alienated herself out of the entertainment industry.
Next: A rapper who couldn’t deal with his emotions
Rapper Future and singer Ciara had a very public relationship and breakup. Though the duo weren’t exactly writing poetry about one another, they seemed to get along fine and co-parent their young son, baby Future, without any issues. That is, until the R&B songstress began dating NFL baller, Russell Wilson.
As soon as the couple went public in 2015, Future began posting rude and misogynist things about Ciara on his Twitter and Instagram. He wrote, “This b*tch got control problems. I gotta go through lawyers to see babyfuture…the f**kry for 15k a month.” Luckily, the pair seems to have settled their differences for the sake of their child.
Next: A reality star who got addicted to plastic surgery
Everyone isn’t cut out for fame, and after The Hills star, Heidi Montag, rose to fame she went into plastic surgery overload to the point where she was nearly unrecognizable. In 2010, Montag took to Twitter to show herself after her latest surgery and quite frankly, fans were alarmed.
This prompted her to Tweet, “I have no friends! The ones who are pretending to be “friends” or “family,” are crazy, angry, broke and BITTER. My last surgery was the best decision of my life!” Thankfully, Montag seems to be doing miles better these days.
