How Did Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London Meet?

Once upon a time Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London fell in love — but when, exactly? If you didn’t know about their romance before the rapper’s untimely death on March 31, you might wonder how it all started and where the two first met. Here’s the rundown on how Hussle and London met and ultimately fell in love.

It all started with social media

“I did not slide into his DMs. My homeboy did,” the ATL actress told GQ in a joint cover story back in February. She told the publication that she wanted to buy his Crenshaw mixtape (2013) for her co-stars on The Game — which wasn’t a cheap gift, BTW.

“The marketing for the mixtape was that we only made a thousand units and sold them for a hundred dollars apiece,” Hussle explained. “It was a scarcity model. Jay-Z bought a few copies, et cetera.”

London received the mixtapes and began following Hussle on Instagram. He then followed her back, slid into her DMs, and the rest is history. Hussle told GQ that they’d been “building” ever since. (He added in a couple’s quiz for GQ that they met up for the first time at his store in Los Angeles.)

The California natives stayed together for more than five years, a period in which they had a son named Kross and moved in together. (They also raised Hussle’s daughter from a previous relationship and Lauren’s son, Cameron Carter, by Lil Wayne.) Some even believed that the two were heading toward marriage. But, sadly, Hussle was gunned down outside of his flagship store, The Marathon Clothing, on March 31. As of writing, a suspect has been arrested for the 33-year-old’s death and is awaiting trial.

How she took his death

As you can imagine, London took the death hard. She broke her silence two days later in an emotional statement on Instagram, writing that she felt “lost.”

“I am completely lost,” she wrote. “I’ve lost my best friend. My sanctuary. My protector [and] my soul…. I’m lost without you. We are lost without you babe. I have no words.”

In another post, she promised that she would make him “proud.”

What is London up to now?

London has stayed out of the spotlight in the months since Hussle’s death. She has a role in the BET drama Games People Play, which is currently in its first season. However, the episodes were taped before Hussle passed, and it’s unclear whether the show will get another season.

She’s really only emerged to honor Hussle. On April 11, she debuted a tattoo tribute to the rapper on Instagram, writing, “Real Love Never Dies. When you see me, you will always see him.” On other occasions, she’s shared throwback photos of herself and Hussle, reflecting on the sweetest moments in their relationship.

But she promised that she would keep going and continue Hussle’s philanthropic work, so keep your eyes open for what she does next. The marathon continues.
