Chance The Rapper Landed A Role In The Live-Action ‘Lion King’ and You’ll Never Believe Who Helped Him
Every already knows that The Lion King is set to be full of celebrities.
From Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) to Beyoncé, fans can’t wait to embark on this brand new Disney adaptation and have some of the biggest names in the industry bring this beloved film to life.
Though the cast list is filled with some pretty well-known names, there is one person on that list who fans might be surprised to see.
It turns out that Chance The Rapper was also part of the animal kingdom and one of the main cast members helped him get on board.
Being In The Lion King was a special moment for Chance The Rapper
Since 1994, The Lion King has been a ton of people’s favorite Disney movie of all time.
From its sing-along worthy songs to its impactful story, this film has always had a special place in many of our hearts.
Now that it is back with a live-action adaptation, fans are anxiously waiting for July 19 to finally get here so they can flood theaters and witness the heartfelt story of Simba and Pride Rock once again.
While many of us already know the famous celebrities who are part of the cast, it came as a surprise to some that a well-known rapper lent his musical skills to the film.
On July 9, Chance The Rapper attended the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles. While there, he revealed on Instagram that he was also part of the remake.
The musician posted a photo of his name in the end credits along with several photos of him and his family celebrating the special night.
He also shared a few snapshots of him with his fellow cast members, including Beyoncé and her daughter, Blue Ivy.
In his caption, Chance The Rapper explained how special it was for him to be part of a story that he grew up with and mention how he has been “obsessed with all things related.”
The Grammy winner also explained how much the original film has impacted his music over the years as well as his life.
Now knowing this, we can assume that it was a dream come true for him to receive a call from Donald Glover as he made it possible for Chance the Rapper to be part of the film.
“So when my big bro Donald got casted as Simba, he did the coolest thing ever and told director Jon Favreau to call me in as a consultant to keep the original flavor,” the rapper wrote.
He brought some of his own flare to the film
After speaking to the film’s director, Chance the Rapper soon found himself in the studio trying out some fresh and new things to add to the live-action remake of The Lion King.
“So for about a year I would go to the LK studio and see early animations, scenes, music direction or assemblies and they’d always be out of this world amazing,” he continued. “One day I’m there Jon asked me to do some singing stuff, another day he asks me to do some lines. Its all a blur, but I’ll tell u its one of the best blurs of my whole life.”
From the photo of the end credits, Chance the Rapper plays a bush baby, even though he recently revealed that he originally tried out for the role of Simba.
“I tried out for the role of Simba, little known fact but I didn’t get it,” her shared with Access.
Even though he didn’t land the lead role, Chance the Rapper is still grateful to have been part of his childhood film alongside his good friend, Donald Glover.
He concluded his Instagram post by writing, “I am so blessed to know people like Donald and Jon man. AMAZING FILM, AMAZING CAST AND AN AMAZING NIGGHT LAST NIGHT. GOD BLESS AND LONG LIVE THE KING.”
The Lion King is set to hit theaters July 19 and we can’t wait to see our childhood film come to life.
