This Is Why Children Never Believe Prince Harry Is A “Real Prince”

Prince Harry loves children. The royal dad-to-be can often be found chatting and laughing with kids. He even squats down to so that he can talk with them at eye level. The red-headed prince also adores his niece –Princess Charlotte, and his two nephews, Prince George, and Prince Louis, and he spends as much time with them as he can.

Now that Prince Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan Markle are set to welcome their first child into the world in late April or early May 2019 — the prince is already getting a ton of practice in with some kiddos –especially a little boy who needed to be convinced that the Duke of Sussex is actually a prince.

This is how Prince Harry convinced a little boy he’s actually a prince

Since Meghan Markle is officially on maternity leave –Prince Harry has been embarking on his royal engagements solo. In late March 2019 –the prince visited St. Vincent’s Catholic Primary School in London where a slew of tiny admirers greeted him.

While most of the kiddos were eager to meet Meghan Markle’s husband, one little boy remained skeptical about the prince’s royal status. According to People, while most of the little ones were cheering and chanting Prince Harry’s name– 4-year-old Emmanuel Osei was not moved. Instead, he tapped Prince Harry on his shoulder and asked, “When is Prince Harry coming?”

Teaching assistant Philomena Frattura told People, “He said, ‘But I’m Prince Harry.’ The student then said, ‘When is the real Prince Harry coming?’ Harry replied, ‘I’m the real Harry. I’ve just had my hair cut for the occasion.’” After a little more convincing, little Emmanuel accepted Prince Harry as the real deal and the pair sealed the deal with a high-five.

Why don’t children believe Prince Harry is a real prince?

Most children associate royals with Disney characters, and though Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan Markle, Prince William, and Duchess Kate Middleton always looked poised and put together, they are rarely in royal regalia. In a 2016 interview with People, Prince Harry explained,

Every time I get to meet kids and they have been told a real-life prince is coming, the disappointment on their faces when they see me without a crown or a cape. I’m worried because the American kids, especially next to Disney World, are going to be thinking, ‘You ain’t no prince, you ain’t dressed like a prince, you’re having a laugh!’ So I am going to pack a crown and a cape this time and some funny pointy-toed shoes. I’m going to sign the crown out!

Is Prince Harry excited about becoming a dad?

With his corny prince jokes and his affection for kiddos, it’s clear that Prince Harry is super excited about becoming a dad. Though we’re not sure when Baby Sussex will make his or her grand debut, the prince already has the sweetest nickname for his unborn son or daughter — “our little bump.”

Who knows, fatherhood might entice him to actually start wearing crowns when he meets children.
