Chloe x Halle were discovered on YouTube after singing “Pretty Hurts” by Beyoncé. The video became so famous that it drew the attention of Beyoncé. In 2015, Beyoncé signed them to her management company, Parkwood Entertainment, for a six-album deal reportedly worth $1 million.

The duo says they are grateful for the opportunity Beyoncé provided: “Being in the midst of having such a beautiful mentor like her, we were allowed to explore with our creativity, and we’re so thankful to her for providing her platform and always reminding us that you don’t have to dumb down your art for the world — you can keep creating new, innovative things and let the world catch up to you,” Halle told People magazine in March 2018.

Although Chloe x Halle are mentored by Beyoncé, she doesn’t write everything. Chloe x Halle write and produce all their own songs. Every song on their debut album, The Kids Are Alright, was written and produced by them. During an interview with The Breakfast Club radio show, Chloe told host Charlamagne tha God they learned how to write and produce by experimenting on their own.

We write and produce everything. We do it all in our living room; I feel like that’s where we’re most comfortable. We love to experiment, throw things out, and see what sticks. We’re more like the feeling type of girls. And if we don’t know something, we look it up. We grew up having that ‘If you don’t know, figure it out,’ mentality from our parents. So that’s how we learned it.

5. Chloe x Halle met Beyoncé years before when they were 2 and 4 years old

The sisters met Beyoncé years before they were signed to her label. Chloe played a younger version of Beyoncé in the movie The Fighting Temptations. Chloe spoke about her experience on The Breakfast Club:

When we first met [Beyoncé], I was 4, and [me and Halle] acted too. It was in The Fighting Temptations; I played the younger version of [Beyoncé]. That’s when our paths first crossed. So, it’s crazy how the universe works and sends you those little signs.

Chloe x Halle later met the singer again after they were signed to her label. They said one of their biggest moments was meeting Beyoncé. We think most people would be star-struck when in the presence of Beyoncé, so we’re not too surprised the sisters had a moment when they met the songstress. “Meeting Beyoncé was definitely one of our biggest fan-girl moments,” Halle told People. “I feel like once you’re comfortable around Beyoncé, you don’t really get starstruck anymore!”
