Chris Evans Reacts to ‘Fantastic’ Protest-Themed ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Fan Video

One of the key reasons the Marvel Cinematic Universe has worked so well is its impeccable casting. For instance, prior to him joining the MCU, no one would have expected Chris Evans to be so spot-on as Captain America.

The actor was previously best known for playing arrogant frat-boy types in movies like Not Another Teen Movie and Fantastic Four. Yet, the humble, principled Steve Rogers appears to be closer to Evans’ actual demeanor.

In fact, Evans has become more politically outspoken, like his character. And the actor’s reaction to a new fan-made take on a climactic moment in Avengers: Endgame is a testament to that.

Chris Evans recently left the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind

Avengers: Endgame, of course, changed the face of the MCU in more ways than one. As Earth’s Mightiest Heroes faced off (again) with Thanos (Josh Brolin), the movie paid off nearly a decade of storytelling. And it also served as a swan song for several key Avengers, including Evans’ Captain America.

After defeating Thanos and returning the Infinity Stones to their own timelines, Cap returns home an old man. He chose to stay behind and create a life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Avengers: Endgame literally closes on Steve and Peggy’s long-awaited dance.

Evans didn’t even want to meet with Marvel to discuss playing the character at first. But he now calls taking the role the “best decision” he’s ever made. Fans tend to agree, as Evans and Cap have emerged as fan favorites. At least MCU die-hards still have the actor’s social media accounts to turn to.

The Captain America actor shares his thoughts on a recent fan video

Evans only recently joined Instagram, but his Twitter account has been active since 2012. While the actor hasn’t historically been the most frequent poster, his tweets have gained steam lately. Evans has used the platform to advocate for a variety of political and humanitarian causes.

So when a fan-made edit of the “Portals” sequence from Avengers: Endgame made the rounds, the internet wanted Evans to weigh in. Inspired by recent events, the video — first shared by The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill — depicts Cap as representing “protestors” and assigns each emerging hero a new group. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), for instance, is “donators.”

Community star Yvette Nicole Brown — who shares a scene with Evans in Avengers: Endgame — tagged the actor in her Twitter repost. And Captain America himself approved of the “fantastic” protest-themed video. Evans thanked Brown for sharing and spread some more love in his brief tweet.

Will the former MCU star consider returning for more ‘Avengers’ films?

Evans’ exit from the MCU is still fresh. But for many fans, the actor’s interest in activism calls to mind his performance as Captain America. So, as more time passes, some are wondering if Evans will ever reprise the role on screen. After all, no one ever really leaves a comic book movie, right?

Thus far, Evans has remained adamant about his exit. Largely, his decision is based on how perfectly Avengers: Endgame ends his story. Some reports have claimed Evans will return as “Old Cap” in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But for now, we’ve seen the last of Evans’ Cap.
