Chris Hemsworth Probably Isn’t Leaving the MCU Anytime Soon
Those who died most likely will be back in some form, especially because the emotional connection with the original team is far too strong.
Discussions about whether Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, or Scarlett Johansson will return go on and on. Similar curiosity is building about Chris Hemsworth and what he really intends to do with his Thor character.
Chris Hemsworth has already made his case about continuing
One way to glean any clues about what Hemsworth’s intentions are is to go back and see what he has said personally about hanging around the MCU.
According to Hemsworth in an interview with CinemaBlend last year: “I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me. I’ve loved it so much. But the combination of this many characters in this Phase Three, as Marvel calls it, you’ll never have this interaction with this many people again.”
Things are no different now a year later, and his above quote came before the announcement of Love and Thunder hit the media pipeline. This is a lot different from what a few of the actors have said about continuing with the MCU.
Downey and Evans have already been effusive at saying they stepped away at the right time. They both have gone on record as proclaiming any return is only highly dependent on if the story has real logic.
Regardless, fans on Reddit all say if Thor possibly dies, Love and Thunder would be the best possible finale for one particular reason.
How do fans feel about Thor dying?
No evidence exists yet that Thor will die in Love and Thunder. On the other hand, with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) taking center stage in this film, some suggest Thor might die so Jane can become the new Thor.
After all, she already stepped in for Thor in the past when he was down in the dumps. A consensus on Reddit seems to postulate the idea Thor might die, yet perhaps still be viable in flashback films.
Others say that would be a waste based on Thor’s lifespan. As one Reddit user noted: “I’m assuming he dies either before or at the next Avengers movie because I can’t see Thor retiring and becoming too old to fight given that he has another 4 thousand plus years of life ahead of him”.
Yes, a hero’s death is hard to resist in the MCU, especially when strong emotion is possible. With time also having no meaning lately in the MCU, Thor could be one who gets a hero’s death and yet still live through other means.
Is there really more for Thor to do?
Another good argument is Thor may just want to give his hammer away to someone else after everything he has gone through. Considering he suffered from PTSD due to several mishaps (you know, that little thing of Thanos wiping out half of civilization), Thor may deserve a rest.
How he lives out his life is another thing, if already becoming acclimated to how daily life in America here on earth functions. Passing on Mjolnir to someone like Jane would mean a lot to fans since she went through illness (cancer) herself. Plus, having a woman taking the Thor role would add another woman holding a leading superhero designation.
On the other hand, seeing how Thor adjusts to old age as an Avenger would be more than a little interesting. So far, no one has attempted that with any superhero.
