Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Married for 5 Years: Wedding Details You Forgot, And How They Stay Together
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are one of those rare celebrity couples who are so open about their relationship, but there are still a few questions people have about the pair and how they make it work. Here’s more on that as well as some interesting details about their wedding.
The model and musician had a lavish ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, on Sept. 14, 2013, however, they tied the knot the day before that at a courthouse in the states.
“We actually got married after going to a couple Fashion Week shows at Vera Wang, ironically who actually did my dress, but we got married at the courthouse right after,” Teigen told E! News. “We are dumb and didn’t realize that our Italian wedding would not be recognized unless we had a real ceremony in New York City. So Irina Shayk was our witness.”
For their wedding in Italy, the bride had three outfits changes. She wore a strapless ivory gown during the ceremony before changing into a second dress for the reception and closing out the night in a crimson mermaid dress. All of the gowns were designed by Wang. The affair was a star-studded event with celebrity guests including Kanye West, Quincy Jones, bridesmaid Brooklyn Decker, and Stevie Wonder. All of those in attendance received gift boxes with bottles of Prosecco in linen bags and the Italian toast “Cin Cin” printed on them.
Since their nuptials, the duo has never shied away from giving fans a glimpse into their relationship and life as parents to their children Luna and Miles. They’ve been candid in the past about their struggles with infertility and Teigen’s postpartum depression. They’ve also provided everyone with a little too much information at times like when the Lip Sync Battle host admitted that they were members of the Mile High Club.
“We were on our way to Thailand to see my parents, flying commercial first class,” she revealed in an interview with Cosmopolitan. “We were under a blanket. We weren’t even in one of those pod things. I feel like we should get a trophy for that.”
When it comes to what makes their marriage work, Teigen offered this advice, “I think it’s really important to be complete partners in crime. I love the mentality of ‘us against the world.’ Even when you have kids, never forget your relationship as partners and lovers–that’s so important … it’s important to be able to look at each other and be like, ‘We created this thing and we’re going to solve it together.'”
She added that at times people should put their negativity aside and just be encouraging for their partners so they don’t bring them down. “It’s important for them. Sometimes I don’t want to make John feel good and I’m sure he has the same with me but it’s my keen advice to do it anyway.”
The couple has proved time and time again that what they’re doing is working for them and keeping their relationship strong.
