‘Cloak & Dagger’ Is Canceled but Fans Will See the Characters Again in ‘Runaways’ Season 3
Fans of Cloak & Dagger are upset to find out the show has been canceled after two seasons. The one interesting thing about the timing of this cancellation is the fact that stars, Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph already filmed a crossover with Runaways.
Find out more about the crossover and what the stars of Runaways said about wanting to work with the stars more.
‘Cloak & Dagger’ is canceled
It has been announced that Cloak & Dagger has been canceled after two seasons on Freeform. The channel released a statement about the decision to Deadline.
“We are so proud of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and the trailblazing stories this series told,” read the statement. “We are also grateful to our incredible talent Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph for bringing these beloved characters to life, and showrunner Joe Pokaski for his vision. We’d like to thank our partners at Marvel Television for a wonderful two seasons and we are hopeful that we can find another project together.”
Showrunner Joe Pokaski also tweeted after the news broke. “So, yeah. There are parts of me that feel gut-punched or angry at larger corporate forces, but the biggest feeling I have in my heart right now, by far, is pride. I’m so f*cking proud with what we got to do on #Cloakanddagger,” tweeted Pokaski.
The characters will appear in ‘Runaways’ season 3
The show shared the same universe as Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu. The upcoming season of the Hulu show will have Cloak and Dagger appear for the first time.
Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television explained why this crossover took some time. “This is the hardest part for fans to sort of grasp around,” he told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “A large part of it has to do with production and when something isn’t shooting, when somebody is shooting, and can we physically make it happen?”
He continued, “You know [Olivia] and Aubrey happened to be available. They were really happy to shoot in Los Angeles. That show shoots in New Orleans. Not that they don’t love being in New Orleans, but they happen to live in L.A.”
Some of the stars hope to work with Holt and Joseph again
The Runaways cast members teased how the crossover will change things for their characters. The biggest thing is that they will realize they aren’t alone.
“We kept it in the group and that was it,” Lyrica Okano said during roundtable interviews at New York Comic Con, “and then for Cloak and Dagger to come in, that’s when we first realized that like ‘Oh! There are other teenagers out there that are going through like similar things as us and like the same kind of struggles.’”
It’s too early to tell if the cancellation of Cloak & Dagger will change anything with Runaways. However, the cast members talked about wanting to work with them more after filming their crossover.
“Audrey and Olivia are one of the coolest people ever,” said Allegra Acosta. “I was telling my mom this earlier, I was like ‘I mean I wouldn’t mind if we get picked up in season 4, they come to our show, and then we have a permanent show with Cloak and Dagger’ because they’re just awesome.”
