Colin Macy-O’Toole Said Farewell to ‘Below Deck Med’ but It’s Not the Last Fans Will See of Him
During the season finale, Macy-O’Toole tweeted, “And on that note, this is my last tweet for
#BelowDeckMed. Thank you for all the love and support you have all given me throughout the years. I hope you enjoyed the season!” Fans responded with a resounding, “No” as many weren’t ready to accept that Macy-O’Toole would return to private life.
However, Macy-O’Toole’s recent tweet about some “exciting news” he wanted to share got fans hopes up that he might be returning to Bravo for another show. But when the announcement was that he would be at BravoCon, some fans seemed pretty let down. Showbiz Cheat Sheet wanted to find out if Macy-O’Toole planned to stay out of the spotlight or if he had something else in the works. Guess what? Colin has something cooking. It’s just on simmer right now.
More of Colin is coming (but first BravoCon)
Macy-O’Toole was taken aback by the reaction to his tweet. He actually has several projects in the works with many still in the pitch stages. BravoCon just came his way Friday.
“I have a couple of things going on,” he said. “I was asked about an interest in another different TV show.” He adds, “I got called this past Friday about BravoCon.”
“BravoCon is a really big thing, but I mean I was kind of hoping it was a TV spin-off because that’s what I’ve always been expecting,” he said. “But no, with BravoCon that’s really exciting. They called me the other day and I was really thrilled about it.”
Currently, Captain Sandy Yawn, Captain Lee Rosbach, and Kate Chastain are officially joining Macy-O’Toole from the Below Deck franchise. But he hinted that two more cast members will also be there. While he isn’t sure of specifics, he will be spending at least five hours at BravoCon over the three-day event.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to BravoCon
Macy-O’Toole hasn’t been a ferry boat captain for months and has devoted his time to pursuing a career in entertainment. “Ever since doing the show it definitely opened my eyes to other projects or career opportunities,” he shares. “It’s just knowing the production side of things and knowing that there are a million opportunities in the entertainment industry and me being somewhat a part of it.”
He says while nothing is set in stone as far as network or cable television, he is seriously working on a slew of creative ideas. “I had a meeting with iHeart Radio to host podcasts or do radio hosting for one of their channels,” he said. He also was pretty serious about his idea to do a version of Bachelor in Paradise but with single Bravolebs. “It would sort of be like an all-star cast with all the different shows put together,” he envisions.
Macy-O’Toole wants fans to understand he has plenty of ideas in the pitch stages and to stay tuned. In fact, he’s also going to test-drive his hosting skills this December when he introduces Captain Lee Rosbach at an event in Boca Raton, Florida. “It’s a meet and greet for Captain Lee in this nice theater and I’m the moderator,” he says.
His talents could also be featured on a podcast
Macy-O’Toole is looking both behind and in front of the camera for new projects. One of the biggest draws for fans is his easy-going humor and gift of observation. He could also see hosting a show with a format similar to Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. “Or even doing a show with different Bravo alums like what are they up to now, I would love to do a little bit of [behind and in front of the camera],” he says.
He is also mulling over a project that fans have been begging for him to try for years. “I was thinking about doing a Below Deck podcast with my mom,” he says. “I think that would be fun.”
Speaking of mom, Robin Macy, what does the family think of the hilarious mother and son delivery on the popular Watch What Crappens podcast? “I love the Crappens guys, I think they are hilarious,” he says.
Whenever Watch What Crappens recaps Below Deck Med, they always do an impression of Macy-O’Toole’s mother overzealously giving him affirmations. “My mom is crying [when she listens],” Macy-O’Toole says. “She freaking loves it. She’s like ‘Oh my God Colly, they mentioned me again!’ She gets super excited. They were talking on Twitter a few weeks ago and she invited them to dinner.” Now that also might be a fun collab … Macy-O’Toole, his mom, and the Watch What Crappens team.
