She can have her cake and eat it, too. YouTube celebrity Colleen Ballinger, also known as her character Miranda Sings, makes her Broadway debut in Waitress: The Musical this summer. That’s sure to make the haters back off. Here’s more about the singer and vocal coach to the stars.
Colleen Ballinger is most known for her YouTube channel, ‘Miranda Sings’
She may be a professional singer, but Colleen Ballinger lets her sense of humor shine through in her work. In 2008, Colleen created the tone-deaf yet lovable character “Miranda Sings” on YouTube. This character recorded covers of herself singing, eventually getting praise from comedians like Jerry Seinfeld.
The account currently has over 10 million subscribers, each video earning hundreds of thousands of views. Some of her current videos include her reacting to Billie Eilish, teaching fans to be Instagram models, and covering Taylor Swift’s “Me!”
Recently, Miranda Sings was featured in a Disney movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet. Colleen Ballinger also toured as this Miranda Sings persona, even performing alongside artists like Todrick Hall at Vidcon. One of Colleen’s live shows as Miranda, Miranda Sings Live!, premiered on Netflix on June 4, 2019.

Colleen Ballinger then appeared as the pregnant woman in Ariana Grande’s music video, “Thank U, Next.” On the singer’s personal YouTube account, entitled Colleen Ballinger, the artist collaborates with other celebrities and YouTube personalities.
Her video singing with Grace Vanderwaal has over 2 million views. Colleen’s video baking a cake with Ariana Grande has almost 7 million views. Her most popular videos, however, are those involving her pregnancy and her son, Flynn Timothy Stocklin.
She’s always loved musicals
Ballinger may play Miranda on YouTube, but she’s acted in musicals and plays since she was a child. Even though she is a vocal coach to the stars and a YouTube celebrity, Colleen Ballinger said her goal was always to act on Broadway.
“My goal was the be on Broadway since I was a little girl,” said Colleen Ballinger in one of her videos. “Everyday I would put on repeat, ‘When He Sees Me,’ which is the song sung by the character Dawn. And I love that character, it’s right up my alley, I love the song, I love all the music.”
The actress will portray Dawn in Waitress: The Musical from August 20 to September 15. The current cast includes Broadway royalty like Shoshana Bean and Ben Thompson. With the Tony Award for “Best Musical” and music written by Sara Bareilles, Waitress is one of Broadway’s most beloved running shows.
Once it was announced that Colleen Ballinger would be on Broadway, fans and celebrities raced to Twitter to congratulate her, including Sara Bareilles.
