Colton Underwood and Cassie Randolph might be boyfriend and girlfriend, but the two don’t plan to keep it that way for long. The latest Bachelor couple made their first appearance together on Tuesday night with revealing insight into their relationship — including their engagement plans.
Will Colton and Cassie get engaged this year? And, will The Bachelor franchise air their proposal on television? Find out, ahead.
Colton and Cassie say they are in the ‘pre-engagement period’ of their relationship
Following their appearance on After the Final Rose, Colton and Cassie headed to Jimmy Kimmel Live! (as most new Bachelor couples do) for their first appearance together outside of The Bachelor franchise. During the interview, Jimmy Kimmel grilled the couple on their relationship status, to which they came to an agreement that they are “confidently boyfriend and girlfriend.”
They continued to explain that they are a step above boyfriend and girlfriend, but not quite fiancés yet. To which Jimmy Kimmel determined they are in the “pre-engagement period.”
Colton calls Cassie his ‘future wife’
While they figured out their relationship status, Colton referred to Cassie as his “future wife.” Which, probably comes of no surprise to Bachelor fans, as the reality star revealed this revelation during the season finale, but does hint at where they are headed in the future.
They already have a ring
Since Colton didn’t propose on The Bachelor, the couple missed out on a free engagement ring. However, Jimmy Kimmel did them a solid and contacted the show’s jeweler, Neil Lane on their behalf. During their interview, he surprised the couple with a ring.
According to Page Six, Cassie Randolph’s engagement ring features a two-carat princess-cut diamond surrounded by 162 small, round brilliant-cut diamonds. The entire thing weighs an estimated three carats.
It’s unclear whether or not Colton and Cassie get to keep the ring from Jimmy Kimmel (though he did hint that they do). He even told them they could pick a different ring out. “If you don’t want that one you can pick out a different one,” Jimmy Kimmel told the couple. “It doesn’t have to be that ring,” he added.
Like he does with The Bachelor franchise, Neil Lane likely donated the ring to Jimmy Kimmel in exchange for television promotion. After all, he missed out on his spotlight this season.
Will Colton propose to Cassie on television?
Speaking of television promotion, if Colton and Cassie want a free engagement ring, Colton might have to propose on The Bachelor franchise after all. The newest Bachelor couple could make an appearance on Bachelor in Paradise this summer, like former contestants, Ashley and Jared.
If Colton proposes to Cassie on Bachelor in Paradise — and receives a Neil Lane engagement ring — they can’t keep the ring if they break up before the finale’s two year anniversary. “In the contract, it says if you are not together for two years after the final day of the show airing, you have to give them the ring back,” Jesse Csinsak, who was engaged to DeAnna Pappas, told Bustle. That said, his insight was about The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise could have different terms.
