Colton Underwood Reveals He Wasn’t Honest With Producers While Filming His Season of ‘The Bachelor’
Colton Underwood‘s season of The Bachelor might not have been as dramatic as Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, but it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing either.
As fans will remember, Cassie Randolph ended up winning Underwood’s final rose, but only after breaking up with him and attempting to leave the show first.
The two worked through Randolph’s hesitations and, today, Underwood and Randolph seem to be pretty happy together.
How Colton Underwood lied to ‘The Bachelorette’ producers to protect who he was really falling for
Recently, when Underwood was interviewed on the This American Life podcast with Emanuele Berry, he revealed that, sometimes, he’d give his producers wrong information.
“They always asked to rank the girls,” the 27-year-old reality star explained of how The Bachelor works behind-the-scenes–it’s how the producers would check in with the lead to see who they were connecting with.
“And very early on, Hannah [Godwin] was up there. And she got left off of a date,” he said.
He continued, “And I sort of recall remember feeling a little burnt when they did that. I was like, so let me get this straight. Hannah’s number one on my list right now, and she’s not getting a date this week?”
He said from “there on out” he started lying about who his “top girls” really were.
“I was like, all right, if you’re going to do that to my top girls, I’m not really going to tell you who my top girls are,” he said on the podcast.
Underwood continued: “Because I don’t want you messing with them. So in a weird way, I tried to defend myself and defend the girls by not being truthful to them who my top was.”
Another strategy Underwood said he employed was keeping his top names consistent.
“Hannah was always at the top of the list when I always made the list for them to see, and I never changed it,” he said. “So that’s just me wanting to set myself up for success.”
Colton Underwood says he fell for Cassie Randolph early on in his season
Underwood maintains that he was falling for Randolph for much of his season. He said being with her was like a “breath of fresh air.” He says their relationship felt like a normal relationship, not a Bachelor relationship.
“I think with Cass, the best way to describe our relationship is it was such a slow burn,” he said. “And it was, in a weird way, in the dynamic of The Bachelor franchise where it’s supposed to be quick, and fast, and intense.”
He continued: “It was sort of a relief to find a normal relationship in which it was a slower burn, and I wish it was a more realistic approach to a relationship. When I was with Cass, it was like a breath of fresh air.”
