The news about relationships of Hollywood celebrities is constantly changing, often for the worst. One such couple? Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, who announced their decision to separate in 2017.
Since this is a hot topic, let’s take a closer look at trying to deduce what went wrong. Here are the facts and the latest developments in their breakup that people are buzzing about.
In posts on their respective Facebook and Instagram accounts, Pratt and Faris expressed their sadness at ending their marriage. They announced the legal separation on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, in almost identical statements.
The internet, of course, had a field day. This beloved couple has been deemed “#relationshipgoals” many times. So what happened?
Next: Faris used to be the famous one.
A ‘fame imbalance’
There’s an interesting trajectory as to how fame may have influenced this relationship. When the pair first met, Faris was clearly the bigger star — with credits such as the Scary Movie franchise and House Bunny. On the other hand, Pratt was primarily known for his role on the WB series, Everwood.
But things have obviously turned around since then. While Faris maintains a steady job as the star of Mom opposite Allison Janney, Pratt has skyrocketed to fame with blockbuster roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World. Though two people are rarely ever on exactly the same level of fame, it’s hard to ignore that Faris and Pratt are in very different places in their careers.

This is Faris’ second failed marriage
We should never place the blame on one person. That being said, it’s been brought up that Faris was in a relationship at the time that she met Pratt, and there’s always been speculation that she left her first husband for him.
Of course, both are complicit in this. If Faris was unfaithful with Pratt, this is arguably not a great way to begin a relationship. But marriages fail, and it seems as though the two fought hard for theirs, so putting the onus on one or the other isn’t helping anyone

Hollywood hurts happy homes
Every relationship experiences its ups and downs, but those in the spotlight have their own unique set of challenges when it comes to making a marriage work. Faris recently spoke about this.
“I don’t think that’s something, when you’re an actor, that you’re prepared for,” she said. “There are two different roles that you play — the one on-camera and the one in public … That’s the tricky part.”

Why they were different
Faris and Pratt had a lot in common beyond just being celebrities. Both grew up in the Seattle area and maintain a love for Washington State, where they have a home. They also began their careers in a similar fashion, both starring in horror spoof films.
But what really set them apart was their candor. The pair were open, honest, and funny when it came to describing their relationship to the public. “It was like magnets,” Pratt told Elle when asked what it was like when they first met. “Our personalities meshed, she was a goofball, she liked to have fun, it was impossible to offend her.”

Putting their son first
Above all else, the most important thing to consider in these instances is the welfare of the children involved. Faris and Pratt have a son, Jack, who is 5 years old.
Both appear to be loving, doting parents, and they’ve affirmed in their official statement their commitment to co-parenting him together. With two such kind and caring individuals, it appears as though they’ll do just fine in raising Jack from separate homes.

The MCU curse?
In a strange coincidence, 2017 was a bad year for superhero relationships. Pratt, who portrays Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the third in a string of breakups, following two of his Avengers: Infinity War co-stars.
Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, announced her separation from her husband in January and filed for divorce in March. Around the same time, Captain America portrayer Chris Evans called it quits with his girlfriend, actress Jenny Slate, after dating for less than a year. Are the Avengers and company doomed to be lonely?

Allison Janney explained how Faris is coping post-split
As we know, work doesn’t stop when you go through a breakup, and since Faris is in a sitcom, she has to put on a happy face and keep her comedic edge through this difficult time. For fans wondering how she’s doing, her Mom co-star, Allison Janney, explained that Faris is continuing to smile while she deals everything.
“She just is a trooper. She comes to work with a smile on her face,” Janney told E! News. “She’s a professional. I love her to death. Her private life she keeps pretty much to herself. She comes to work and gets the job done. She’s got a big smile on her face and she’s getting through it.”

Faris spoke out on podcast following breakup
Prior to Janney’s comments, Faris did speak out publicly about her split on her podcast. She made it a point to thank her fans for all their love and support and then, when answering a listener’s question, spoke about her personal experience and a “mistake” she made. She said:
Life is too short to be in relationships where you feel this isn’t fully right or somebody doesn’t have your back, or somebody doesn’t fully value you. Don’t be afraid to feel your independence if things aren’t right. I made that mistake, I think, a little bit, like ‘I’m checking my relationship off the list. If that would be the final piece of advice I could give you, that would be, ‘Know your worth, know your independence.’

Faris discussed marriage and ‘letting go’
Faris did a candid interview with the magazine Live Happy in June — however, her quotes were released the day after she and Pratt announced their split. The actress said that she does not like conflict, but when she does get upset, she can’t let a thing go.
“I can’t stand confrontation, which maybe is a character flaw,” she said. “I do feel like when I do get upset, which is rare as my husband and family would say, I have a hard time letting go.”
At the time, Faris also gushed about Pratt and talked about their bond and why they “fit so well together.” The conversation was Faris’ last public interview before her breakup.
Next: Both appear to be moving on to new relationships.
Faris is moving on
While it remains unclear exactly why she and Pratt split, it is clear that Faris is moving forward and may now be involved in a new relationship. Faris was seen having a lunch date with a cinematographer named Michael Barrett in October. They were on the set of her new movie, Overboard, according to TMZ, and they were reportedly kissing and sharing food.
They were also spotted enjoying a carnival together in Malibu, and in the Palisades before that eating at an Italian restaurant. “It was definitely a dinner date,” a source told E! News. “It seemed romantic in the way they were looking at one another and how they were laughing at the table… No one in the restaurant realized it was her, but she definitely looked to be on a date.” Another source also confirmed the two have been seeing each other.

Pratt may be moving on too
Faris isn’t the only one who may be moving on. According to OK! Magazine, Pratt has been secretly dating actress Olivia Munn, according to a source who claims they have a “genuine connection.” The source also said, “It started as a conveinent rebound but blossomed into something very real and exciting.”
Ironically, Faris once joked that Munn, who has starred in X-Men Apocalypse and the upcoming Ocean’s 8, was Pratt’s dream woman because they both share an interest in eagles.
Though rumors are still swirling, Munn denies that that they’re dating, even taking to social media to share a photo of a text she sent Faris assuring her of her platonic relationship with Pratt.
