Could This Possibly Be the Theme for Season 39 of ‘Survivor’?

It’s hard to believe Season 38 of Survivor is already rapidly coming to a close. Edge of Extinction brought another twist that fans of the show who’ve been watching for years have never seen before, as this season, every person voted off the island had a second chance to get back into the game. So far, we’ve only seen one contestant come back from Extinction Island — but we’re looking forward to seeing who can conquer the next challenge and reenter the game just as the finale is around the bend.

Season 39 will premiere just a few short months after Extinction Island concludes, too — so what will the theme be? Here’s what’s been speculated.

The theme for Season 39 is rumored to be Island of the Idols

Executive producer and show host Jeff Probst has made it known that he and the other producers of the show are always looking for the next great twist, and according to Inside Survivor, the title and theme for next season is going to be Island of the Idols. The publication notes it’s believed that there will be a separate island (like we’ve seen with Ghost Island and Extinction Island). But, instead of being sent there when they’re voted out, contestants will likely have the opportunity to head there and gain advice from former Survivor winners “Boston Rob” Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine.

There could be a double-meaning for Island of the Idols, too. Fans on Reddit seem to think there will also be hidden immunity idols on the island where Rob and Sandra reside. “My theory has been they have a choice between talking with their survivor idol or getting a clue for a immunity idol,” one fan posted.

The only returning players we may see this season probably aren’t actually playing the game

Not only did we get a serious twist in regards to gameplay with Edge of Extinction, but we also saw four returning players attempt to win the million dollar prize. Will we see any Survivor veterans on the Fiji island once again attempt to win the game? It seems unlikely. Inside Survivor already claims to have some of the information with the next cast, and so far, no former players have been announced.

Not only that, but Boston Rob and Sandra will allegedly only be resources for the other contestants and won’t be playing the game at all. We wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a twist involved somewhere along the line for them, however, as they’re infamous players who super fans would love to see get back into the real game play once again. We may have to wait and see if they’re involved any further in Season 39, however.

Could we see an all-winners season of Survivor in the future?

Fans have a feeling something huge will occur for Season 40 of Survivor. That will mark 20 years of the show existing, which is a serious milestone — and many believe there’s evidence showing we may see an all-winners season. Inside Survivor notes rumor has it that Survivor is inviting back an entire cast of former winners to play once again and try to claim the title of Sole Survivor.

We can’t forget that Probst has said before that an all-winners season would likely never happen, however. As he told Us Weekly, “We can’t do all winners. As a producer, I would never suggest it. I would say it’s not a good idea.” He did note that CBS thinks it’s a great idea, however, but he maintains that there aren’t enough compelling winners who would even want to return and compete for the money. Probst did offer a compromise that could work, however. “We could do winners versus another group. That’s an idea.”
