‘Counting On’: Are Things Getting Awkward for Jim Bob and Michelle with Jana Duggar Still Living at Home?

We’ve been hearing for months now that Jana Duggar is just fine still living at home with her parents. Sure, it’s counter-cultural for a 29-year-old woman to not have moved out on her own yet. But the Duggars are used to being mocked for their extreme religious choices. Why would now be any different?

So much emphasis is placed on how Jana feels about still living under her parents’ roof. But one topic few fans explore is whether Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are getting frustrated that their eldest daughter is unwilling to choose a spouse and begin married life. Are the Duggars getting fed up with Jana still living at home?

Jana Duggar is bucking family traditions

The Duggars have a very unique yet traditional way of doing things. In their family, adult children might usually begin courting in their late teens or early twenties and get married soon after. There’s no such thing as dating around or living together before marriage.

This process has gone smoothly for all of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s adult children so far — except for one. Jana Duggar has been the source of endless speculation for years now since she hasn’t gotten married or moved out of her childhood home. What is she waiting for? And more importantly, what do her parents think of it?

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar want what’s best for their daughter, Jana

Though it might seem odd by some standards, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are probably happy to still have their daughter Jana living at home. Especially since her eternal happiness is at stake.

A source recently revealed to In Touch that certain members of the Duggar clan are becoming frustrated by Jana Duggar being so picky.  “Meet a nice boy, date, get engaged, marry and start a family right away — that’s just how the Duggars do things,” the insider told the magazine. “But Jana isn’t going to marry someone just to follow the family norm — and that’s refreshing.”

As for Jana Duggar’s parents, they must respect that she’s willing to keep following the family rules even when she could have moved out years ago. But they have the added benefit of utilizing Jana’s time and talent around the house. It’s common knowledge that their eldest daughter helps with homeschooling, cooking, and other chores around the house.

It might be detrimental when she moves out, especially if Jim Bob and Michelle have begun to depend on the help she provides.

Jana Duggar is still hopeful she’ll find love

Even though Jana Duggar isn’t courting anyone yet, she’s still optimistic that she’ll find love soon. “Maybe he’s riding in on a green turtle instead of a white horse,” she mused on Instagram when asked if she’d ever find her “handsome prince.”

“In the words of Michael Bublé, ‘Just haven’t met [him] yet!’” she said.

And fans are rooting for Jana Duggar, even if they don’t understand why she doesn’t just move into a studio apartment and get on with her life. No matter what happens, you’ve got to respect Jana’s commitment to following Duggar family protocol no matter what.
