‘Counting On’ Critics Say They Would ‘Totally’ Read a Tell-All Book If Derick Dillard Released It
Those who have been following 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On for so many years might have noticed that Jim Bob Duggar and son-in-law Derick Dillard don’t have the warmest relationship. Derick married Jim Bob’s second-oldest daughter, Jill Duggar, back in 2014. Since then, things between the Dillards and Jim Bob haven’t gone so smoothly.
Dillard recently revealed that he’s planning to write a Duggar tell-all book, and critics of the show — who love to pick apart the famous family — say they would absolutely read it.
Jill and Derick left ‘Counting On’ back in 2017
When Counting On first started (after Josh Duggar’s leaked sexual abuse scandal forced TLC to nix 19 Kids and Counting) Jill and Derick, alongside Jessa and Ben Seewald, were the stars of the show. Episodes documented Jill and Derick’s lives as new parents, and she was the most well-known cast member. But almost three years ago, Jill and Derick suddenly decided they no longer wanted to be involved with the reality show.
The reason for the couple’s departure was originally thought to be because of some inappropriate tweets Derick sent out about other TLC stars. But it turns out the two left on their own terms — and Derick has slowly revealed the real reasons why through the years.
Derick started to spill deep Duggar secrets on social media
Derick has somewhat of a big mouth on social media — he doesn’t hold much back about his in-laws. Derick once suggested that Jim Bob is in control of the entire family’s money, which explains why Jim Bob is the one who sets the men up with jobs; it might also explain why none of the kids have a college degree.
Derick took issue with Jim Bob’s “rules” for the family, and he hinted that a money dispute was the actual reason why he and Jill left the show. Derick has since gone on to attend law school, and he’s revealed more about the family along the way. He once said that he and Jill are now not allowed over her parents’ house unless they receive special permission from Jim Bob; the other kids reportedly don’t have to follow the same rule.
Derick claims he’s writing a tell-all book — and critics are here for it
In late 2019, Derick revealed that he was working on a tell-all book about the Duggar family but said it would take a while to put together. Still, critics of the family rallied around Derick, saying that they would love to get their hands on a copy. And a Reddit thread from the popular “Duggar Snark” critics page just confirmed that they’d love to read what Derick has to say.
“Even though Jill and Derrick have a long way to go to redeem themselves… I would much rather support them with my coin than [Jim Bob and Michelle],” one Reddit user wrote. “I can’t stand Derrick but dear lord I’ve never wanted to read a memoir so badly,” someone else commented. “I have a firm policy of never buying what reality stars are selling. I will probably break my own rule if this book comes to fruition though,” one user added. Another user said they would “totally” read a tell-all, should one be released. However, critics shouldn’t get their hopes up yet, as Jim Bob has reportedly hired lawyers in an attempt to prevent Derick from publishing anything.
