‘Counting On’: Does Jim Bob Duggar Gift Homes to His Kids?
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are parents to 19 children, and they have raised all of them very differently than most modern American families. Their kids don’t go to college, and though it’s speculated that Jim Bob sets them up with jobs, fans can’t help but wonder if he does more. On the show, the kids live in modestly-sized homes with their spouses, but all of these homes are updated to look brand new. Here’s why some think Jim Bob gifts homes to his kids.
Jim Bob has had a successful real estate career
Jim Bob never attended college, but he has made a successful career for himself. The head of the Duggar house has been involved in real estate since he was young, and his commercial real estate career has given him an estimated net worth of $3.5 million. Though the Duggars do get paid for their reality show, Michelle and Jim Bob built a massive, 7,000-square-foot house that likely wasn’t paid for entirely by reality television income. Michelle and Jim Bob’s kids don’t go to college, and it’s been suggested that he sets them up with local jobs.
The kids all live in modest-yet-luxurious houses
None of the children live in mansions, but they all have luxurious homes. Though modest in size, the Duggar homes all have updated interiors, from hardwood floors to gorgeous kitchens and modern baths. Though Arkansas is not considered an expensive state, it would still be hard for a car salesman like Joseph Duggar to afford the home he and Kendra live in. It’s assumed the Duggar kids get a cut of the reality show salary, but fans have always suspected that Jim Bob lends a hand in helping his children afford the homes they raise their families in.
Some ‘Counting On’ fans think Jim Bob bought Jedidiah Duggar a house
Speculation surrounding the Duggar homes has been going on for a while, but Jedidiah Duggar’s political campaign definitely raised some eyebrows. Jedidiah announced he’s running for office in Arkansas’ 89th district; however, the Duggar residence in is the 87th district. The only way Jedidiah could run in district 89 would be if he owned property in that district. Ever since he made the announcement, fans have suspected Jedidiah’s father purchased a home in district 89 so that his son could start his political career.
A few who follow the show dug up proof that the kids don’t buy their own homes
Some who follow the Duggars decided to dig in to the fine print of the kids’ homes, and there were some interesting findings. A Reddit thread about the Duggars’ homes had one user saying that based on public documents, Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald only paid $1 for their home (this often happens when the home is gifted but title must still be transferred).
Another user wrote that the same thing happened for Joy Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s home — it was reportedly “sold” to them by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar for $10. “That’s so strange to me considering Austin really seemed like the one to not take the handouts from [Jim Bob],” one user wrote in response to the findings. Showbiz Cheat Sheet did not confirm that the Duggars only paid a few dollars for their homes, but it makes sense why some fans would think Jim Bob helps his kids out with purchasing their first house.
