‘Counting On’: Fans Admit They Initially Couldn’t Stand This About Kendra
TLC’s Counting On is a reality show spin-off of 19 Kids and Counting. Counting On was initially called Jill and Jessa: Counting On. It follows the lives of the older Duggar children as they begin establishing their lives as adults.
Counting On gives fans a first-hand look into the lives of the Duggar children as they begin to court and wed, enter the working world, and raise children of their own. The show details the unique religious Duggar Lifestyle, which some people claim is old fashioned.
Counting On follows the Duggars as they experience life’s most significant moments. The show has a feel-good vibe as fans view the real-life joy, sorrow, triumph, hardships, and love that the Duggar children experience.
Who is Kendra Caldwell?
Caldwell began courting Joseph Duggar in the spring of 2017. Their first official date was featured on the show; Duggar and Caldwell went rollerblading at a park. Of course they were accompanied by two of Duggar’s younger brothers, James and Jackson, who chaperoned the date.
In true Duggar fashion, the chaperones observed the new couple and made sure that they didn’t hold hands or kiss. Duggar and Caldwell both seemed happy on their first date but it was apparent that Caldwell felt more than a little nervous.
The couple quickly hit it off, and they married in the fall of the same year. Caldwell was just 19 years old when she married Duggar. She gave birth to their first child, Garrett, in June 2018. Duggar and Caldwell recently celebrated the birth of their second child, Addison Renee, earlier this month on November 2, 2019.
How does Caldwell feel about the Duggar lifestyle?
Caldwell has admitted that she struggled with living up to the Duggar’s expectations of cleaning and cooking. Many fans thought that the Duggars put too much pressure on her to live up to demanding expectations while pregnant. However, Caldwell reiterated that being a good wife, cook, and housekeeper are all personal goals she has set for herself.
Caldwell grew up in a family with religious beliefs similar to that of the Duggar family. Caldwell’s Christian upbringing has influenced her decisions as a wife and mother.
Caldwell described her views as being similar to the Duggar beliefs, “My modesty standards are very similar to the Duggars’ standards. Wearing skirts down to below our knee, wearing sleeves on our shirts and then pretty high necklines.”
She is the oldest of eight children. Her son Garrett is actually older than her youngest sibling!
She was happy that her pregnancy coincided with her mother’s pregnancy; it provided a good bonding experience for the mother-daughter, relationship, and Caldwell feels that her experience with motherhood has strengthened the bond she has with her mother.
Why didn’t ‘Counting On’ fans like Caldwell at first?
As seen in this Reddit thread, many fans have admitted that they didn’t initially like Caldwell. What’s not to like about sweet Caldwell? Well, some fans thought that her personality seemed fake. They weren’t buying her frequent giggle and persistent agreeableness. Caldwell often had a nervous laugh when she was new to the show.
It’s easy to see why she would be nervous- she was courting a famous person, Duggar, while being filmed on a reality show. That’s enough to give anyone the first-date jitters.
As time has gone on, Caldwell has quickly become a fan favorite. The nervous giggle is gone; she seems to be more comfortable in front of the camera. Caldwell has a genuinely sweet and down-to-Earth personality. She helped her husband renovate their home and has worked hard to take care of the family home.
Caldwell and Duggar are truly in love, and they both feel so blessed to have each other and their two children. She has happily embraced her life as a wife and continues to find joy in motherhood.
