‘Counting On’: Fans Are Outraged By Jana Duggar’s Support for Jedidiah Duggar’s Political Career

This season of Counting On is well underway, and there are plenty of Duggar family members in the spotlight who we haven’t heard much from before. Jedidiah Duggar is 20 years old and still living under Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s roof, as he remains unmarried. But he’s been getting more screentime than ever this season, and he’s talked about what he’s looking for in his future wife. While fans assumed the Duggar son was going to announce a courtship since he just started up his own Instagram account, it seems he’s up to something else altogether. He’s getting into Arkansas politics.

Jana Duggar’s a fan favorite from the family, and it seems she’s in support of her brother’s political move. Not everyone’s happy about it, however. Here’s what some are commenting on Jana’s Instagram post.

The Duggars are known for their ultra-conservative views

The Duggars are known for taking the spotlight with their reality TV shows, but we can’t forget that they’re also quite political. Romper reminds us Jim Bob served in the Arkansas House of Representatives as a member of the Republican party from 1999 to 2002. After that, he also ran for the senate with a pro-life platform. Jim Bob and Michelle have raised all of their children to be very conservative as well, and we’ve seen them advocate for pro-life views and attend anti-abortion rallies.

As for why the Duggars take on a pro-life stance, it has everything to do with their religion. They’re devout baptists, and Michelle and Jim Bob infamously don’t believe in birth control. Instead, they believe God will provide them with the proper number of children they should have, which ended up being 19. Aside from pro-life, we also know the Duggars are anti-transgender rights. Michelle has tried to convince the residents of her town to vote against transgender rights, and Jill Duggar’s husband got himself kicked off of Counting On for expressing anti-trans sentiments on Twitter.

Jedidiah Duggar is starting a career in politics

The Duggars have received plenty of bad press due to their political beliefs, but that’s not stopping Jedidiah from getting involved. The 20-year-old just announced on Instagram that he’s running for Arkansas State Representative. “I’m a Conservative. Pro-Life. Pro Second Amendment. Pro Religious Liberty. Combat the Opioid Crisis. Lower Taxes. More Jobs & Growth. Strong Economy,” he captioned this Instagram post.

That’s not all. Jed also posted a video to Instagram in support of his political platform — and he mentioned his ultra-conservative values here as well. “I will unequivocally advocate for conservative values. I am a Christian and I will stand up for religious liberty, I am pro-life and I will be an advocate for the unborn, and I will always defend our Second Amendment,” he captioned the post. “With your support, I will be a strong, conservative voice in Little Rock for District 89.”

Jana Duggar posted about her brother’s political run

Not many of the Duggars have posted about Jed’s run for the House, but Jana’s showing her support. As we know, Jana’s always been the soft-spoken Duggar who still lives at Jim Bob and Michelle’s home despite being 29 years old because she’s unmarried. And while she seems like she could be more liberal than her other family members because she hasn’t yet settled down with a man, she’s still showing her support for her brother’s conservative views.

“It was an honor to go to the Arkansas State Capitol today to watch my brother @jed_duggar file as a candidate for House District 89. I’m so proud of the man he is and the heart he has for serving the community of Springdale!” she captioned this Instagram post.

Not everyone’s happy with the post, however. As one follower commented, “I hope he doesn’t forget that humans, especially women, have rights. Women have the right to many things and he better not take any of it away from them. Don’t punch your religious values on people. We don’t want it.” Another wrote, “No offense he’s not going to win, Janna has a better shot at winning than this guy [sic].” Another added, “Oh yeah, because he totally understands separation of church and state. He’s been raised to believe nobody other than Christian men have rights. And he has no life experience [sic].”

We’ll have to wait and see how Jed does in the end and how many other Duggars will be in his corner while he runs!
