‘Counting On’ Fans Are Shocked That Jessa Duggar’s Son Already Memorized Bible Stories

We’ve been watching the Duggars for years thanks to shows like 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. While Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are responsible for bringing their kids into the limelight, it’s now their adult children who are taking the reigns and keeping the viewers watching. And Jessa Duggar has maintained quite a following for years.

Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, recently welcomed their third child, Ivy, into the world. And while Jessa doesn’t post as much to Instagram as some of her siblings do, she still adds plenty of highlights of her kids and her home life. She posted a video of her oldest, son, Spurgeon, telling a classic Bible story, too — and it’s getting a ton of attention.

The Duggars are an ultra-religious family

Those who watched 19 Kids and Counting likely remember the strict rules the Duggars follow, and it’s all due to their ultra-religious beliefs. The family explains they’re devout independent Baptists, a very strict sect of Christianity. And while the average family may think Jim Bob and Michelle have way too many kids, the Duggars are far from the only huge family in their church.

While some have claimed the Duggars are part of the “Quiverfull” movement, which is a movement that supports having as many children as possible, the Duggars claim they are not associated. Michelle and Jim Bob have made it clear that they don’t support the use of birth control, however. Instead, they believe that however many children they would have is totally up to God. So far, it’s unclear if their kids also believe this, but it’s suspected that many of the older Duggar children use some sort of birth control.

Jessa Duggar is already incorporating religion into her family’s life

The Duggar kids aren’t nearly as strict with their religious ways as their parents. While Jim Bob and Michelle made their daughters wear skirts that go below the knee and tops that cover the shoulders, now, we’ve seen Jessa, Jill, Jinger, and many other Duggars wear pants and stylish clothing.

That doesn’t mean they’ve put aside their religious ways completely, however. While they may look a bit more modern, it’s clear all of the Duggars still live very Christian lifestyles. And Jessa even posts to Instagram about how she’s incorporating religion into her children’s lives.

“For the past few months we have been trying to do better about having regular family devotions. Sometimes we block out time for it in the morning, and sometimes we do it at night, just before bed,” Jessa captioned a post from August 2019 of Spurgeon and Henry singing hymns. She then added that she’s been incorporating scripture memory every day along with hand motions to the verses to help the kids remember.

Fans are surprised her son is already reciting Bible stories

Spurgeon may only be 4 years old, but he’s already exhibiting some impressive behavior. “Spurgeon wanted to try telling us the story of the birth of Jesus all by himself, so he planted himself on his stool and took off,” Jessa captioned a video of her oldest son telling the classic Bible tale. “We’ve been working on this passage for a few months, a little at a time, explaining the story and memorizing the verses from Luke 2:1-20.”

It’s clear Jessa works with her kids every day on their verses, and fans are seriously impressed.

“I love that you are working with them while they are so young memorizing every verse. Most adults couldn’t even do that!” one fan commented.

Another wrote, “Wow!!! They did an awesome job! That’s a lot to remember for little ones their age!”

Yet another added, “Absolutely incredible. So so powerful for children to memorize Scripture like that. Blown me away!”

We’re sure Jessa will give us more updates on how the Bible verses are coming along as her kids learn even more, too!
