‘Counting On’ Fans Are Still Livid Over Derick Dillard’s Christmas Twitter Statement

While many Counting On viewers may not necessarily agree with how the gigantic Duggar family go about their lives, there’s no doubt we love watching the drama unfold. Most fans were first introduced to the Duggars back on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting. Though the Josh Duggar scandal caused the network to cancel the show, the family’s back years later — and plenty of the kids who were just teens when they first hit TV are now married with children of their own.

Nowadays, fans love keeping up with 27-year-old Jill Duggar and her controversial husband, Derick Dillard. Derick and Jill are no longer associated with Counting On due to Derick’s transphobic tweets, but viewers of the show still follow him on social media to see what sort of drama he’s going to cause next. And his Christmas commentary over the years certainly does not disappoint.

Derick announced that Santa wasn’t real on Twitter back in 2016

Derick’s no stranger to getting himself into trouble via the internet. We remember when he posted transphobic tweets about TLC star Jazz Jennings, and he also posted homophobic tweets about designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent. Instead of staying far away from the platform (it’s what caused him to lose his gig with TLC, after all), he also used Twitter back in 2016 to trash Santa Clause.

Inquisitr notes at the time, a story was circulating in the news of a pastor who was shouting at kids in line excited to see Santa Clause. The pastor received a ton of backlash for ruining Christmas for the kids. We know the Duggars do not believe in Santa, either, so they side with the pastor on this one. Unfortunately, Derick took it upon himself to tweet, “Hey kids, Santa isn’t real!”

After a ton of backlash from fans, Derick deleted the tweet. But even so, fans can’t help but remember the time he tried to ruin Christmas cheer by spreading the hateful rhetoric.

He was noticeably absent from the Duggar’s holiday party this year

The Duggar family is only growing bigger, and while it’s tough to get them all together several times a year, they did just recently have a gigantic ugly sweater party for the holidays. Thanks to members of the family like Joy-Anna and Jessa, followers got an inside look at all the fun that was had. There was one thing that the internet noticed, however — and that was that Derick was not in attendance with Jill, OK! reports.

We’re not sure why Derick left his wife hanging at her family’s holiday party, but it could have been school-related. He’s currently attending law school and working hard on his studies. He also may not be a huge fan of Duggar holiday parties considering how small his own family was growing up. Whatever the case may be, fans were totally expecting to see him in the photos, but he was completely absent.

He also posted a photo to his Instagram that had his followers scratching their heads

It seems Derick isn’t a total scrooge despite his past with Twitter and his lack of ugly sweater partying. He recently posted a photo to his Instagram showing some Christmas decorations. As the caption reads, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” The only issue is that his followers were seriously confused by what was in the photo.

PopCulture notes one user questioned, “What might this be? I’m trying to come up with a really good guess, but nothing is coming to me!” Another user sarcastically wrote, “Oh how beautiful.” And another user echoed, “Why not just post a normal Christmas tree?”

It turns out the image in the photo was of the staircase in his law school wrapped up like a Christmas present. Unfortunately, it just became more fodder for mockery.
