‘Counting On’ Fans Are Trolling Derick Dillard’s Instagram After Pride Celebrations

It’s hard to believe we’ve been watching the Duggars grow up on screen for over a decade. While fans have loved seeing each member of the family come into their own over the years, we’ve also loved watching love blossom during courtships, too. And when Derick Dillard first met Jill Duggar, they both explained they were immediately into each other and knew they’d have a connection that would last a lifetime.

Today, Jill and Derick have two sons together, but they’ve proven to be one of the most controversial couples in the family. They’re no longer featured on Counting On thanks to Derick’s hateful Twitter activity, and he’s made it known he stands by what he says no matter how controversial it may be. Now, a few of his followers have taken to his Instagram to lightly troll him now that Pride celebrations just occurred. Here’s what went down.

The Duggars are known for opposing LGBTQ+ rights

Aside from having a huge family, the Duggars are known for their gender norms, strict family rules, and fundamentalist Christian values. Unfortunately, this also means they oppose LGBTQ+ rights. Buzzfeed reminds us of all the times the family has mentioned, in some capacity, how they only support those who identify as straight — and on-screen, it began as early as 2012.

Buzzfeed notes the entire family campaigned in favor of politician Rick Santorum in 2012, and he was known for his conservative Christian values that included opposing same-sex marriage. Not only that, but Josh Duggar stated on the family blog that when a Duck Dynasty star shared anti-LGBTQ, statements, the star was actually the real victim of “religious intolerance.” Josh also accepted a position at the anti-LGBTQ organization, Family Research Council, in 2013. And when Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar created a “kissing challenge” for their followers, Us Weekly reportsmany believe photos of same-sex couples kissing were deleted.

Derick Dillard was kicked off of Counting On for transphobic tweets

All potential suitors for the Duggar daughters must first go through Jim Bob, so when Jim Bob introduced Derick Dillard to Jill Duggar, there was no doubt that Derick had the same viewpoints and outlook on life as the rest of the huge family. His fundamentalist Christian values really resonated with Jill, and the two of them have even gone across the world on mission trips together. Unfortunately, Derick took his anti-LGBTQ+ views to Twitter, and this promptly got him removed from Counting On.

Back in 2017, TLC was promoting I Am Jazz, a show about transgender woman Jazz Jennings. To that, Derick tweeted, “What an oxymoron … a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth.” Derick didn’t stop there, either. He also attacked Jazz when he heard about her gender confirmation surgery with a tweet that said, “A system that allows this kind of child abuse is clearly broken.”

Jazz wasn’t the only one Derick went for, either. He also called gay couple Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent “a travesty of a family.”

Derick’s followers are now trolling him to celebrate Pride

The month of June is Pride month, and according to Library of Congress, it’s to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising that occurred in Manhattan in 1969. It’s common to see Pride parades and celebrations all throughout June to celebrate the LGBTQ community. And of course, since many of Derick’s followers are well-aware of his past Twitter antics, they took to his Instagram to lightly troll him about it.

“Happy pride!” one of his followers commented on this Instagram photo with a rainbow emoji. To that, another added, “YAY! Happy #PRIDE!” and made each letter of “PRIDE” a different color of the rainbow. Yet another added a cheeky Taylor Swift lyric with the comment, “You need to calm down…’cause shade never made anybody less #GAY!” – Taylor Swift.”

The comments on Derick’s Instagram were inoffensive, so he didn’t say anything in response. We doubt he’ll be changing his viewpoints anytime soon, however.
