‘Counting On’: Fans Are Worried That Jill Duggar Is Being Used by Her Friends

Jill Duggar seems to have a new group of friends to hang out with. Ever since moving further from her family’s compound, Jill has appeared a little out of it. Far from her siblings and couped up in the house with two young boys, the former reality TV star seemed more than a little overwhelmed. Now she’s found a group to hang with. Fans were initially happy to see Jill out and about, socializing with people who were are not direct family members. Now, though, they are getting a little concerned. It looks like there might be something fishy going on with at least one of these friendships.

Who is Jill Duggar’s new buddy?

Jill seems to have joined a group of young moms in her new neighborhood, but she’s sparked up a particularly strong bond with one lady. The woman, named Rachel Virden, appears to have a lot in common with Jill. Her Instagram profile suggests she’s dedicated to her religious beliefs, her two kids, and her status as a stay-at-home mom.  Rachel appears to have two sons who are around the same age as Israel and Sam.

It’s interesting just how much the two seem to have in common. They do, however, deviate in one way. Rachel is a consultant for Roden + Fields, while Jill is enjoying her career as a social media influencer. Fans who have checked out the new pal’s Instagram feed are a little concerned that Virden might be using Jill to peddle her skincare products.

Is Jill’s new pal using her to sell products?

Jill’s mentions of her new pal have taken on a clear sales tone in recent days. The mother of two documented a walk, a hangout session, and a few other events that her pal was at. Each time, Duggar has hashtagged the post with Rodan + Fields. She has also tagged her buddy in each photo.

So, what exactly is going on here? There are a few options. First, Jill may be merely doing a favor for a friend. It’s always possible that Jill offered to use her social media reach to help promote her new pal’s products. That would be the best-case scenario, if not a bit odd.

The second option is that Jill doesn’t have a new friend at all. Instead, the buddy mentioned may be a business associate. This scenario could go one of two ways.  Either Jill is being paid for the social media mentions, or she’s planning to join the ranks of Rodan + Fields consultants.

Rodan + Fields would technically be considered an acceptable career path for Jill. It doesn’t actually break any of the Duggar’s career rules, and Jill would be working from home, ensuring that her young sons are never without her. Derick Dillard, Jill’s husband, is currently working as an independent contractor for GrubHub, so Jill may follow his lead with Rodan + Fields.

What is Rodan + Fields?

Rodan + Fields is a multi-level marketing company specializing in Skin Care. According to Forbes, the company was started by Kathy Fields and Katie Rodan in 2012. The duo had previously worked together to create Proactiv. Fields, according to the publication, is worth an estimated $1.5 billion.

Rodan + Fields, much like other MLM companies, relies on independent contractors selling products and recruiting new consultants. To succeed with the company, one must not only sell a ton of products, but they must also recruit other consultants to work under them. The consultant who brought the recruit in gets a portion of their sales.

Some people compare this type of structure to a pyramid scheme; however, Loan Street insists there is one significant difference between an MLM and a pyramid scheme. In a pyramid scheme, no product exchanges hands. Instead, it relies entirely on new people joining the program to survive. An MLM, on the other hand, has products or services to exchange with consumers. This, allegedly, makes it a legitimate business strategy, but it’s ethics are dubious.
