‘Counting On’ Fans Come to Joy Duggar’s Defense After Some Criticize Her Parenting

The Duggar family raised their children differently than most families. Anyone who has ever seen Counting On understands that their upbringing was deeply rooted in religion, and their household was full of strict rules. But now that some of the kids are out on their own, fans are seeing how they raise their own children. And as with any verified Instagram, it’s never safe from the trolls. But when critics recently slammed Joy Duggar for parenting, many fans came to her defense.

Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, recently went through a miscarriage

Earlier this year, Duggar and her husband announced that they were expecting their second child. The two were extremely excited, as several members of the Duggar family have also announced pregnancies this year. The women even took a photo together to show off the many pregnant bellies. However, several weeks after they made the announcement, Duggar and Forsyth announced that they had lost their child. They posted a photo to Instagram telling fans that when they had gone in to learn their baby’s gender, they learned instead that their little girl had no heartbeat.

She’s still healing and spending time with her young son, Gideon

Now that they’ve gone through the miscarriage, things have been difficult. Duggar has posted photos to Instagram of her son, and it looks like the two have become closer than ever now that she lost her second child. Duggar has also been working on building a new house to sell with Forsyth, which has probably been a good distraction as well. She’s posted more photos of Gideon than ever, and she might be holding him a lot closer now that she knows what it’s like to lose a baby.

Fans slammed her for allowing her toddler to drink coffee

Duggar recently posted a photo of Gideon sipping her coffee from a straw, and didn’t take long for some people to comment about the dangers of giving a lot of caffeine to a child. “Cute shot but you don’t give a one year old coffee or pop (soda),” one user commented. “He is too young for coffee,” someone else said. However, Duggar included a hashtag in the caption that read “#nocoffeeforhim,” suggesting she never actually allowed him to take a sip.

Many came to her defense, saying they do the same with their kids

Though Duggar received some criticism for her parenting (as have her sisters in the past), plenty of people came to her defense for giving her son the coffee. “All kiddos want a sip of Mama’s drink. It’s not going to hurt him!” one user wrote. “My 2 year old LOVES to steal the last of my coffee and finish it off!” someone else wrote. “Mine still steal my coffee, but there are 3 of them!!” another person added. It’s clear that plenty of mothers were in Duggar’s corner when she posted the photo. And the plastic cup showed that there was only a small amount of coffee left at the bottom, which means even if Gideon had taken a few sips, it wouldn’t have been enough to affect him greatly. It’s good to know there are mothers out there supporting other mothers.
