Here’s Why Some ‘Counting On’ Fans Feel So Bad For Jessa Duggar’s Daughter, Ivy Jane

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald recently welcomed their third child, a daughter named Ivy Jane. Duggar and Seewald decided to keep their baby’s gender from the family until she was born. Fans were thrilled to see that Duggar and Seewald had finally welcomed girl after having two boys. However, other fans feel bad for Ivy Jane and are concerned about the way she’ll be raised in her religious family.

Duggar gave birth to Ivy Jane in May 2019

Duggar and Seewald first announced their pregnancy back in January 2019. However, they didn’t have a gender reveal the way most Duggars do. Instead, the couple learned the baby’s gender for their own knowledge but decided to keep it a secret from the rest of the family until the baby arrived. Duggar went into labor two weeks early, which she was surprised by, since her other two kids had been late by five days each. Duggar didn’t have enough time to get to a hospital, so she had a home birth. The couple named their daughter Ivy Jane, and many fans were thrilled that Duggar finally had a little girl.

The women in the Duggar family are arguably a bit suppressed

The Duggar family doesn’t operate the way most American families do. When Duggar was growing up, her parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, had a very traditional way of doing things. Jim Bob went out and made the money while Michelle stayed home and cared for the kids. Michelle homeschooled the children and was pregnant for a good portion of the couple’s marriage (they have 19 kids). Michelle also explained how she was intimately there for her husband whenever he needed her, which Counting On fans didn’t like. And that’s exactly how Michelle raised her daughters to be.

Some ‘Counting On’ fans feel bad for how Ivy Jane will be raised

While some Counting On fans were thrilled to see Duggar welcome her first daughter, others were unsure of what it meant for the little girl’s future. Some fans are worried that Ivy Jane won’t have the opportunities that other young girls in the country do, since her parents appear to be following in her grandparents’ footsteps. “In [four] short years Ivy will be cooking and cleaning and rearing her siblings. What a shi**y cult,” one Reddit user wrote. “Ivy ‘Jana,’” another user added. “Ivy better be prepared to be mommy’s little helper for all of the Seewald spawn while Spurgey [sic] and Henry play,” someone else commented.

Duggar and Seewald will likely have several more kids

Although the couple just welcomed their third, they might already have more kids on the brain. Duggar is only 26, which means she likely isn’t done having kids. Plus, Duggar has mentioned in the past that she really hopes to adopt someday; she even joked that she might end up with more kids than her mom. It wouldn’t surprise us if Duggar and Seewald announced another pregnancy next year — or announced that they’ll be adopting their next little one.
